After draining the tank remember that If a pencil filter is installed in the shutoff valve that several cups of gas remains in the tank.

Have bucket ready when you remove the shutoff valve to...

A word of caution ...

The top of the sector shaft where the steering wheel fastens on is VERY thin steel and VERY easy to damage. Take it easy....

Impact wrench is NOT the tool to use here ... ...

Question,

Looks like there a thrust bearing on the center main cap.

Is there a thrust bearing on the block side of center main also or is the bearing only on the center main cap?

Starting from top of dipstick where BOTH halves of stick enter the hole in block:

6 and 5/8ths to F mark

I do not know where all this concern about it being necessary to torque H C heads to 60 and more comes from...

For the record I started using Higher compression heads more than 55 years ago.

One thing to remember when replacing the Thermostat is that V P uses the Stant manufactured "SuperStat".

The "SuperStat" is a different animal from the standard Stant Thermostat and other brands...

THe VW shocks that my buddy liked (he found gas charged shocks too stiff) were from a VW type III Fast Back / Squareback which are oil filled.

FB / SB weighs 2000 pounds.

Post #7 by 160B shows the newest version that you can see the tabs (at least one of the tabs) at 7 0'clock and re-enforcing plate with the rivet that holds it to the plate at 5 o'clock.
