Re: Model a backfire

Don't think with your wallet! We all do that until you realize how much time is wasted.. If you suspect a vacuum leak, put a vacuum gauge on it. Should be around 16-17 in/HG. If you suspect too lean...

Re: Color of the engine

Don't have to be too exact here. The color is green, not a yellow green, rather a slightly blueish green. It may well be, that left over paint colors were mixed to use them up at times. There likely...

Re: Coolant Debris Looks Like RTV

About the only place that RTV is allowed, in My book is the gooseneck water outlet when eliminating the copper gasket and then very thin application. Better yet is the Right Stuff from permatex, also...

Re: New distributor skips a beat

And if not GAV, monkey with the Air bypass screw: changes the mixture at slow idle. Actually the GAV shouldn't affect the idle but in reality it often does, but that point is a fine point. So, the...

Re: body blocks and frame webbing

And rubber tacked onto the bottom of the block in the frame contact area. Any shimming would be additional rubber held in place by the bolts passing through a hole in shim.

Re: Pickup leg room

Clearly, the thinner back cushion is about the only improvement available. On another note, I am petty sure that the width inside the cab is another advantage. Even if the cushion spring assys. are...

Re: GAV Knob Question

I seem to remember that some reproduction shafts had an issue with the knob loosening relative to the shaft. Might try getting it set and then put a vice grip on the shaft at the floor as a counter...

Re: Couple questions on water pumps

I'm kinda lost here, because of so many seals in so many places. Its great that you're rebuilding one, I'd hope that no mods first to create a baseline was in the mix first. Example: the lead packing...

Re: Engine Stand

The best thing about the side mount adapt. is that the weight is close to the column and not extending out with the included leverage. With the high cost of Flywheel housings, I would rather not...

Re: Best lubrication for transmission ?

I'll put it this way, STP does a good job of not being a lubricant. Steam cylinder oil got us through the first 60 years just fine. Other concoctions might suffice. Look at it this way, pretty soon...

Re: Engine Stand

Don't try to leave the flywheel and f/w housing on and mount to the housing in the conventional way. You can remove these and grab the back of the block but most all prefer the side mount way and...
