That's what I did when I installed mine. Take the tires off. What shift did you get? Cable or lever. Also don't forget clearance once installed. What year is your car? A lever would not work on a 46...

But when I first got my 46, 42guy (Richard) nursed me thru carb and dizzy...

Here it is.
A good solėd ground on the condenser holder and connect the lead from the condenser to the coil terminal that heads down to the dizzy

Sounds like you found your problem "lots of debris in the bowl. So, your jets may be clogged again. Only takes a piece the size of fly sh#t to do it. You definitely need a filter before the pump....

I don't know anything about Bubba's dizzies. But as GM says that on original distributors, weak springs will cause "points float". Skipping/missing at high RPM

I have Brockmans on our 46. Call them and the boss will talk to you and offer glass or steel insides and will make the inlet/outlet pipes to your specs.

For 60 years (I am 80) I have always flooded paint, varnish, urethane cans with my propane torch gas and then quickly put the lid on. Never a skin. Latex paint doesn't need it.
