Re: what was your first car and how much did you pay

Mine was a 57 Ford Fairlane 2 door with a wristpin through the cylinder. Nice body colonial white. Paid $10.00 for it and rebuilt a 58 352 in auto shop for it. Sure would like to have that one back.

Re: 59 flatheads

Thanks B&S. I have a couple 59 blocks someone gave me. One has two cracks. The other not sure but it is a relieved block .060 over. Not crazy about lower compression as not racing. I have two later...

59 flatheads

Are 59 flatheads worth repairing with 2 cracked seats? I was given one. Are repaired blocks prone to always be a problem? I know years ago I was told with 2 or more cracks it was worthless but I know...

Re: Merc. crank in 59 engine

Kinda what I thought. It looks like it could drop at least 1/2 point in compression maybe slightly even more.

Re: Merc. crank in 59 engine

That has crossed my mind also. The shop is only heated when I'm out there. It's the first time I had this issue. I just rebuilt this engine about 4 years ago and there were no cracks. I have never...

Re: Merc. crank in 59 engine

Okay for another question if I decide to go with a 8BA style block. I am aware of the Merc. or F1 truck bell and the F1 water pumps. I would plan on using the early heads cam and gear and timing...

Re: Merc. crank in 59 engine

Thank you. After setting over the winter for about 7 months and after putting the stock 46 distributor in and started after warm up I noticed moisture in the oil. Not a belly full of water but still...

Merc. crank in 59 engine

If putting a Merc. crank in a 59 flathead will the crank pulley from the stock 59 engine fit the Merc. crank? Will the 59 front pulley fit any 8BA engine?

Re: Rojah spark plug ends

[QUOTE=JayChicago;2191345]No, no crimping with this type of connector. Post no. 7 by Bored & Stroked gave perfect directions.

Sid, now that I think about it, I was scratching my head like you....

Re: Rojah spark plug ends

These came from Brillman. I'm just having a hard time understanding what holds the wire from just falling out. It just seems that when you tighten the knurl it would just allow the wire to pull right...

Re: cloth spark plug wires

Is that the part number for the dist. with the one piece cap with the 2 snaps? It looks like no boots for the distributor side.

cloth spark plug wires

Has anyone used the cloth copper core spark plug wires on a 42-48 crab distributor? I see Vintage ford in Sacramento Ca. has them. Are they any good? I'm not worried about radio noise. Just want a...

Re: 42- 48 Ford crab

Yes.. Rotor side loose. Back side isn't bad. Unbelievable as this car is lucky if it sees 200 miles a year. As I stated earlier I had to send the first one back as the car wouldn't even run over...

Re: 42- 48 Ford crab

It's hard to say. It's the rotor end that is loose. Engine end don't feel too bad. The first one I received from Summit the car barely idled and wouldn't go over about 1,000 rpm. They sent me another...

Re: 42- 48 Ford crab

Update on Stromburg E-Fire. I pulled the distributor this evening. What I found is the shaft at the rotor side is loose as a goose. I'm not a very happy camper as this piece of crap cost over...

Re: 42- 48 Ford crab

So going back to points with the 42-48 crab dist. do you run a 1.5 ohm coil or a 3 ohm coil? On a 40 Ford there is a resistor up under the dash. Is it necessary to use this resistor. Still 6 volt...
