If that is your trouble a machine shop is usually needed to rebuild the thrust surface. A bronze thrust surface can be purchased from the different suppliers. It fits into the block.

You can do it, others have too. Don't try to over-think things, Put all those fingers (10) to work. Hint: The thumb and pinkie need to work independently. I like using LockTite blue to keep things...

Too much end play can cause the crank to be pushed forward and make the rods mis-align. Things tend to find centers after it gets running and oiled. Play in the thrust area can be measured and...

Too much slop in the thrust bearing caused just that in an engine I had. Test this theory by not pressing the clutch before starting up the car next time.

That is how Ford manufactured the A, but some trans. rebuilders use sealed rear bearings so if you are not sure, u-joint lube service now and then might be a good thing.

Try and find a semi-fluid grease as solid grease can be thrown off and leave the joint dry if it is not added often.

I wouldn't use cold water on a very warm engine, as things crack when shocked.
I was taught this method in auto shop class and a spray was used during fast idle on a slightly warm engine until there...
