When a condenser looses it's capacitance, the points will start to go bad. If the points stay without pitting, ignore the cap. If you choose to change the points, change the capacitor as well. ...

The water flow pattern within the radiator may hold the answer as to why the temperature appears hotter at the bottom of the radiator than at the inlet. You didn't give a reading for the top tank. ...

Hot water doesn't get cooled by the radiator UNLESS cool air flows through the radiator fins cools the water flowing through the radiator.

What we are discussing is the source of the air flowing...

You need a Fluke Chugmeter.

I also have an optima which I charge every 12-24 months. I also have a great charger which handles that condition and goes into a 'repair' mode giving the battery...
