Re: Wishing everyone well!

Not just drugs, bring back antique car reproduction parts along with them. While were at it, bring back everything else except their dumb cellphone assembly there. They can have that for all I care.

Re: '55 T-bird distributor

Well, yes, I blew that off.
It would be correct to say either; The load-o-matic distributor is the same from the bowl up on '54-56 Y-blocks (in fact the only difference at all is the '54 has...

Re: Wanted-Good 55-56 Ford Station Wagon/Courrier Gas Tank

Obsolete & Classic Auto parts shows one for '52 thru '54 Ford, OEM part # BA-9002. Their part # P09-15010-176.
That was in their 2017 catalog, so you might want to call 'em first at 1-800-654-3247....

Re: 56' 312 No Spark..finally figured it out!

The aftermarket 1-piece wire I spoke of is being used by the distributor rebuilders. Some of the Repro parts suppliers are offering it also.
dmsfrr is correct about being careful when installing the...

Re: 56' 312 No Spark..finally figured it out!

On the '55, 272 V8 distributor, the factory installed a round phenolic bushing thru the hole which isolated the threaded stud from the distributor body. As I recall, they did have a cheap piece of...

Re: Wanted-Good 55-56 Ford Station Wagon/Courrier Gas Tank

I'm pretty sure Auto City Classic gas tanks are actually supplied by SPECTRE. At the time, I ordered mine direct from the Spectre website.

Re: Parts For Sale Again

Nnnnnnnope, not me. I'll keep my Majikjack telephone service (last time I renewed my service cost me $60 for five YEARS) and all calls are FREE. How much do you spend annually on your cellphone and...

Re: 55 Fairlane New member/barn find

Not sure if you have a Fairlane with one Customline fender, or a Customline with Fairlane series body side trim. Appears to have Fairlane interior door panels, but the headlight shroud is...

Need a set of original rear leaf springs for 55 or 56 Ford wagon or Courier model. Possibly could come and pick up and pay cash as long as you are not too far away. Please send private message if you...

Re: Wishing everyone well!

I tend to hibernate in winter anyway, so it would be really hard for me to get infected with Wuhan flu virus. It hasn't found it's way down here in southern Illinois yet either, so people are not...

Re: Is anyone re-producing the 56 Fairlane front cross member

If I were going to make one, I would make it out of minimum 1/16 inch thick steel plate. The drawing above does not take into account the fact that the factory crossmember is taller on the backside,...

Re: starter problems

If the starter drive gets dirty, it can become stuck and not engage with the ring gear when the starter motor begins to spin.
This can sometimes be corrected by dowsing the starter drive in a...

Re: Wanted-Good 55-56 Ford Station Wagon/Courrier Gas Tank

I got a new reproduced '55 Ford wagon gas tank for my '55 Courier sedan delivery several years ago. I think it came from a company called SPECTRE. 100% perfect duplication of original in every way.

Re: Dash Garnish

When I did mine, I was able to do both the left and right side garnish mouldings with the new rubber without cutting the rubber strip in half (where the little center mating piece goes). So mine is...

Re: Dash Garnish

Turn the metal garnish mouldings upside down. You will see a lip turned down and inward underneath. Now look at your repro rubber strip and match the side of the rubber with that lip. Work the rubber...

Re: fordo torque converter

The shop manual doesn't say anything about pre-filling a torque converter. The transmission capacity is about 19 pints of fluid. After complete installation, fill the trans from the dipstick tube...

Re: Need 55/56 Gas Tank Help in identifying what I have

The car in your picture appears to be a radically modified 1955/56 Ford Crown Victoria (2-dr hardtop). It appears that he is using a 55/56 Wagon frame and gas tank due to the side-mounted filler neck...

Re: Need 55/56 Gas Tank Help in identifying what I have

The '55/56 Ford wagon and Courier sedan delivery models all have a different gas tank than the sedan and hardtop models. The wagon has a 3-point mounting system with two brackets (each having two...

Re: To dwell or not to dwell

That old Sears engine analyzer you showed isn't much different from my modern Actron dwell/tach meter and, yes it does not have internal battery (AND is only suitable for use on 12 VOLT electrical...

And yours would also work on 24-volt and 48-volt systems as well unless the manufacturer specifically limits which systems it can be used for in their literature.
I've got a transistor radio that...

Re: To dwell or not to dwell

Several decades ago, manufacturers produced dwell-meters with an internal battery. They do not depend upon the car electrical system at all for operation. It has it's own isolated electrical system...

Re: To dwell or not to dwell

To my knowledge, all modern dwell/tachometers are the type that work off the car battery and they are for 12-volt systems only.
My '55 Ford car seems to run best when set with a .016 feeler guage,...

Re: To dwell or not to dwell

I have two Sears-Roebuck dwell-meters both nearly identical from the late 1960's. They both take an oddball 4.2 volt internal battery. Some years back, I happened to be near a store that sold all...

Re: To dwell or not to dwell

Lets see...you hooked a 12-volt battery to a 6-volt ignition coil ? Probably not good.
I too have a 12-volt dwell/tachometer, but never tried to use it on my '55 Ford with 6-volt electrical system....
