Re: Tire reviews

I put them on my 30 Town Sedan last year, they ride and handle fine in my opinion, and look nice too.

Re: Safety Issues with Seat Belt Article in Current MAN.

How would an article about installing seat belts be any different than an article on how to rebuild brakes? Taken to the extreme, we should not perform any work on our cars ourselves, but have...

Re: Are you or are you not!!!! That is my question....

I was the best "Adder" the owner had at the Union 76 service station back in the early 80's. I could spot a tire low on air, either radial or bias ply, always asked to check oil and fluids, and...

Re: 2 Post Lift for garage

Forever, my Bend Pak is manufactured in China and is built like a tank. Some non-ALI certified lifts are not built nearly as heavy. As you probably know, unless you invest in a Mohawk lift you will...

Re: 2 Post Lift for garage

There are good reasons for both a two post lift and a four post, but worrying about a "flimsy frame" is certainly not a concern when using a two post. My Town Sedan is very solid on my Bend Pak two...

Re: how did the model a not the left hand threads on the wheel lugs

I twisted one off too on my '58 Dodge Coronet in 1975, and just replaced it a few years ago!

Re: Generator thrown solder

Have heard of this happening on late '50s cars, which were capable of sustained high speeds on the new interstate highways of the day.

Re: Not much demand for Model As at any price or is it antique cars in general?

How true this is, I remember back in the '70s, driving on the freeway I would frequently see cars of the late '50s traveling to shows and events. Beautiful sights they were, the magnificent Forward...

Re: Tire Pressure

Terry, the MS stands for Monitoring System. This system is calibrated to the pressure stated in the door jamb, with a tolerance of three or four pounds over or under, and if you set the pressure much...

Re: How long has she been "Your Baby"?

My Father in Law bought my 1930 Murray Town Sedan in November 1957, drove it until 1959, then garaged it, never to be started again until this year.

Re: New Shop is coming along.

Without a doubt Mohawk is the best if price is of no consideration, but he certainly doesn't need a Mohawk for hobby car work. Most dealerships and independents don't even put that kind of investment...

Re: New Shop is coming along.

Hi Wick, congratulations on your recent retirement and new garage project! I built my 40x56 hobby garage with lift 5 years ago, and would like to offer a few suggestions regarding the lift purchase:...

Re: Exhaust smell in car during driving

Model A's also dont have a road draft tube to draw out blow-by crankcase fumes. They just spew out of the oil filler cap.

Re: Exhaust smell in car during driving

Could be crankcase vapors from the oil filler breather. I also own a 1958 car and the crankcase fumes from this pre-PCV valve and other emission controls car are really strong. Just how it was back...

Re: Who's running a Marvel/Schebler carb?

I too run one on my 30 Town Sedan. I rebuilt it with parts from Renner's Corner and the car starts and runs good, and no leaks from the carb.

mhsprecher, Your wheels look great on that Town Sedan. Could you give me the code for the Straw color please? I'd like to go with this for my Town Sedan as well.

Thanks,

Re: Spark lever question

I would first check to make sure the lever travel equals full travel of the distributor plate from fully retarded to fully advanced. If your car is a 30 or 31, the steering shaft can be rotated to...

Re: shimming engine bearings

Mike, that makes perfect sense, an no, I didn't do this or even think of this when I adjusted mine. Would have been easy to do too as I have a 2 post lift and tripod in my shop. Thanks for the tip!...

Re: shimming engine bearings

PC/SR, on my initial Plastigage reading, I believe I had more than .003" clearance at all bearings, as the plastic did not 'spread' at all, using Plastigage with a .001-.003" range. I removed a .003"...

Re: Model A on lift

Brent is right on the car being supported by the axles. Notice the car is at normal ride height and the suspension is not extended like it would be if it was lifted by the frame.

Re: shimming engine bearings

Just last week I adjusted mine as well, on my 38,000 mile 30 Town Sedan. All three mains were shimmed with .006" on each side and I had a knock at fast idle, and measured .003"+ with Plastigage on...
