I am replacing the steering ram on my 56 Fairlane. I looked up this thread and Dextron III is going in after I totally flush and clean my system.

Ordered the seals Monday and received them today. That's fast. I installed the seal today and discovered there is a rough spot when I push the shaft in.
Chain Drive said for me to watch for this,...

Good for you, stay away from COVID. When those mid 50's Fords and Chevy's came out, I thought they were beautiful, and I haven't changed my mind.

I have the car on a lift, all I did was remove the ram. I let the oil that drained
out fall ion a pan. Tomorrow I will let the car down and see if the oil drained out. The control valve does...

Thank you Merc. I finally got the seal out, My 56 ford shop manual said to blow it out, Your instructions said use a prick punch. That is what I did. I bought a repair kit, but nothing there fits...

What you say makes sense, I pulled that rod with about 500 lbs of force. I may can use the air and keep the rod mostly pushed in and try to blow the seal out. The piston could be keeping the air...

I have a 1956 ford shop manual. The instructions do not mention a piston welded to the rod.
You should be able to get the seal and retainer out.

Power steering cylinder

Trying to repair my steering cylinder. I removed the snap ring and dust seal and washer. I then used my slide hammer to remove the piston rod. no success. I then followed the advice of the manual...

You are doing a great job. Reminds me of a 06 Subaru Baja trubo I bought last year. Everything had to be done, I've since named it the money pit. LOL

I was told my 56 ford with a 292 has a 330 rear gear. It's a 2 speed automatic, I may change it out to an AOD.

Here in Ruidoso NM, we have a few weeks of nippy weather, very little snow, the summers are to die for. very seldom goes over 85 with very low humidity.

In the past year, I've had Brockmans, Smithy's and the were all too loud. I have a 292, and I will install Walker quiet flow as soon as the weather gets a little warmer.

I think I lost a little more than half of my glove box. The previous owner installed the A/C.
I just have the regular fan and radiator, it worked fine in Florida. I've since moved to the mountains...

Today I spent the entire day calling all these professional ad runners, several had the rear shoes and no one had the front shoes. I really want the Kevlar, that looks most promising.
