Re: Public Service Announcement: Avoiding Ethanol

Back in the day (pre-ethanol) we climbed Rose Mt highway on the way to Cartright ranch Lake Tahoe in August. Bone stock (6-volt, mechanical pump etc). Yes, it vapor locked and ran poorly barely...

Re: Public Service Announcement: Avoiding Ethanol

99% of the fuel related problems (and subsequent old wives tales) are directly related to 2 factors;
(1) non-ethanol components in the fuel system
(2) vehicles sitting for long periods of time

Re: Clutch?

Have had a CF duel friction 10" and flywheel from them for many years. Great products. I got tired of wearing out my hoist and wrenches using "original" 3 finger designs rebuilt from dubious sources....

Re: 1939 radiator overflow tank?

My reasoning for an overflow tank is quite simple
Take a water glass and pour the water from that glass into a another glass. In the receptacle glass you have air bubbles. You are doing the exact...

Re: Fuel filter best location

My application
There is a filter on the bottom of my old Stewart Warner "thumper" pushing thru the stock fuel filter on the pump

Re: Lowering the front of my '49 coupe

Took out my 1" spring pocket spacers. New Ford Aerostar springs. Camber correction. Cranked in 1 degree castor.
Aerostars "sagged" after a couple of years, about 1/4/1/2". Lowering blocks in rear...

Re: 160 or 180 degree thermostats?

Absolutely. Much verbiage on this site of the benefits. I stumbled on it by accident 25 years ago when dealing with issues on my big block Camaro. Radiator builder that built stockcar radiators...

Re: Spark plugs - 6 volt, 12 volt difference

I've always thought 12v was a "dryer" (as in amperage) spark. My stock flatty seems to like a 45 thousandth plug gap. Throttle response starting etc.
I'm running a magnetic pickup, HEI brain firing...

Talking Re: 160 or 180 degree thermostats?

I've run 180s (Robert Shaw reverse poppet) forever. With a 3/32 hole I drilled. I've actually thought about 195s. Probably not a good idea for someone with a "conventional" fan/no shroud setup.
I...

Re: radio won't fit

I've had one of their products for years. Great radios with BT, USB port for thumbdrive and phone capability. Works great. Be sure to check out their twin speaker indash replacement. ...

Gentlemen, Our sport/hobby is not just for purists as some would like it to be. The EV Merc is just an exercise demonstration. So is 3 duces or aluminum heads or dual points or cutting up a script...

Re: where to buy a quality 10" clutch?

See Pete's post above. I seriously doubt if any rebuilder would have have such an approach.
After reading the problems with "refurbished" clutches and flywheels on this board alone....
There is a...

I think there is a small Phillips head in the chrome trim vertically from bottom.

Re: Hard time starting with electric starter, easy with crank

Before i went to the dark side (12 volt) I found an aftermarket kit at a swap meet that "jumped" the resister at startup. I went thru all the suggestions here 25 years ago but that old Ford had a...

Re: Clutch Chatter

Put in a diaphragm PP, disc and corresponding flywheel. I used Centerforce products. I got tired of wearing out my hoist and wrenches chasing the same problem.

Re: Hijacking a thread

Subject drift
What a great term. I'd like to think this is how "rodders" of the past exchanged information.

Re: Yes, times they are a changing

Just my .02¢ What I have noticed about our hobby is a generational downturn in values. When I started putting the 49 together in the 80s model A's and T's were going for premium money. Now it's...

Re: Should I convert from 6 volts to 12 volts

Given the questionable reliability of repopped ignition and charging parts (hint, NOS is extremely hard to find) it pretty much boils down to how much time you want to spend your time; futzing or...
