Re: #1 plug question

I do remember the new distributor body I got having between 0-0.005 clearance to the rotor. Fixed by filing the contacts on the body.

Re: Clutch chatter project results

This has been an interesting read. I have an aluminum FAM kit. Might install the clam shell piece and see if there is any difference. Will be interested to hear your findings with a NOS clam shell...

Re: Normal Clutch Chatter

There should be no clutch chatter. I would consider a very little amount acceptable but ideally it would be fixed. My clutch chattered until I adjusted the pressure plate fingers.

Have you...

Re: #1 plug question

I just grabbed the cam and checked how much it moved back and forth. I would say any discernible movement would be cause to change the bushings. Like Humperhill said, that kind of play would probably...

Re: Windshield Wiper

The vacuum fitting is on the intake manifold and the line runs through the firewall close to the fuel line. Welcome to the forum!

Re: Clutch restauration, some questions

Never had one apart. I can’t offer much advice other than have you searched here for past posts on the subject?

Re: #1 plug question

What does the plug look like? Fouling? What is the gap between the rotor and body when it's at the #1 plug? Is it different than the rest? What is the point gap? Was the distributor rebuilt with the...

Re: Remove/Replace Headlight Reflector

I don't think any vendor has a high quality headlight socket. They can be fiddled with and made pretty decent but if you want good ones maybe call Bert's in Denver and see if they have any originals.

Re: Clutch chatter project results

Russ, I can't remember, did you have float a motor mounts installed? Either way, glad to hear that rear mount worked out for you.

Also, I really like that battery hold down. Is it available...

Re: Removed engine; some improvements?

Did you pull off the pedals and transmission tower to get it out of the car?? Must have been a pain with it all together like that. You won't regret going through everything, even if it's perfect...

Re: I am so happy......With my 1500W gear oil...

I believe Macs 600w is just SAE140 gear oil. I have that and 600W from Brattons. The stuff from Brattons is darker, thicker and has no gear oil smell to it. I used the Macs in the rear end and...

Re: Removed engine; some improvements?

I’d probably stick with the rope seal. Just make sure to soak it with oil and it should work well.

Re: Gear ratio

I agree with Kurt, Patrick and Purdy. I know the stock ratio works well for me. Good power mid range, climbs hills nicely, and doesn't feel like it's working to hard even at 50-55. This is with a 5.5...

Re: Removed engine; some improvements?

Also change the pilot bearing when you do the clutch. If the pressure plate has been balanced with the flywheel you might not want to change it unless it really needs it.

I would pull the...

Re: New Radiator and Losing Coolant

When it's all warmed up it should run somewhere between 160-190.

Re: New Radiator and Losing Coolant

The motometer does read the steam or air temp in the radiator. I think it has been said here that the lag time can be as much as 5 minutes between the actual coolant temp and the temp reported on the...

Re: New Radiator and Losing Coolant

Well, if you do, I'll be right there with you. Engine rebuilt last year, 5.5 head planed, torqued and retorqued, weeps around the head and looses antifreeze... I need to change the gasket before...

Re: New Radiator and Losing Coolant

How much water did you lose and do you know what temp it was running at? If the rebuilder used the "modern head gasket" I'd say that's your problem. Sadly they turn to goo when exposed to...

Re: Cracked Block

The Car Talk guys used to mention a product called Porter Seal when discussing crack repairs. Anyone ever use it/ is it still made?

Re: What spark plugs are you currently using?

Motorcraft TT10 for me. They run well but sure don’t look like the 3x’s.

Re: Cold Weather Operation

I drove mine a couple times last winter when it was around 10-15 degrees. Covered the radiator halfway with cardboard and bundled up, I have no heater. Starting was fine, just took a little more...

Re: repro exhaust manifold

I don't have personal experience with them but have heard they are good quality. If you do get a new manifold you'll have to get it planed with your intake manifold to even the surfaces. You could...

Re: Carb Rebuild

I have a gallon of Berrymans Chemdip that I use for all sorts of cruddy parts including my Zenith. Comes with a little parts basket inside. Seems like pretty nasty stuff but it works well. I think...
