Re: History Of The Fender-Well Spare Mounting

Like the invention of the car, it wasn't Henry Ford.

Spare tires were strapped with leather belts to the running boards since the very earliest days of automobiles (pre-1900).

Many...

Re: Radius rod ball cap bolts replacement

I've done this job the way J Franklin describes it, and it works fine. I know that I had to grunt a few times, but I seem to grunt a lot more these days anyway.

Re: Stubborn Tight 2-Piece Valve Guide Won't Come Out

John- Given that you suspected the USA B block was not as strong as you liked, you probably made a good choice to drill it out instead of hammering harder on it.

Re: Stubborn Tight 2-Piece Valve Guide Won't Come Out

I GOT IT OUT!

A special thanks to the folks who have done this job before, without breaking something.

I needed the encouragement to get more aggressive with it without worrying about damage...

Re: Do YOU single-clutch ?

[B]Mulletwagon says:
"My only question here is do you downshift before or after the turn ?"

Usually after the turn, that's when I'm going the slowest, and the double-clutch down-shift is easiest...

Re: Stubborn Tight 2-Piece Valve Guide Won't Come Out

I'm not going to reuse any of the valve parts.
My only concern is the block.

Stubborn Tight 2-Piece Valve Guide Won't Come Out

I purchased a valve guide removal tool and it worked great, for the first seven guides. The eighth guide is a problem. Of course.

To be fair, I've been deliberately easy-going with the hammer. ...

Re: Manifold Gasket Replacement - New Video by Paul Shinn

You have parts that are so warped that air leaks in and effects the way the engine runs, unless you use sealant. Okay, if sealant fixes your engine, cool.

I do believe that just about any engine...

Re: Head Gasket

To remove the head, has anyone ever loosened the head nuts just a little, and then started the engine? The head pops loose immediately.

I've never used this procedure, but I've read about people...

Re: Manifold Gasket Replacement - New Video by Paul Shinn

No.
The gaskets work fine the way they were designed.

Why use RTV on these manifolds anyway?
Its not like you have to seal liquids here.

Re: Musty Smell

Put about a cup of household Ammonia in a bowl.
Roll up the windows.
Put the bowl in the car overnight.
Smell is gone.
Cheap. Easy. Fast. Safe. Effective.

Re: Clutch problem?

Could you give an idea of the condition of the clutch to help diagnose the problem?
- Is this an early 1928 multi-disk clutch?
- Are these older parts? Been in the car a long time?
- Were any...

Re: Side mount spares - Left, Right, or Both?

It is a common held belief that the 1930-1931 pickups were supplied with a left mounted spare tire only. This is not the case. However, left side mounted spare tires are much more common.

I have...

Re: 28/29 82A & 30/31 82B Closed Cab Pick Up

If you're not very familiar with the two types of pickups, then you may be temped to think that Bob's statement is a bit facetious; but oh no, it's spot-on correct from the standpoint of the body.
