Thank you for the diagrams! The car is the deluxe model so I do believe the cowl lights are original but will still do as you suggested to be certain.

headlights & cowl lights on at same time

When I turn the headlights on the cowls are also on. There seems to be just a high beam even when I switch to low beam. Basically all the light are on when I move the headlight/ cowl light switch....

ALMOST FORGOT. Do I need any gas resistant packing grease when the manual gas valve is reinserted into the tank or is the pipe thread sufficient? Thanks.

Are you thinking that the debri caused both the manual and electronic shut offs to fail?

Forgive my ignorance but what does ''lapped the tank valve'' mean? I'm going to replace the manual gas shut off valve because I suspect their isn't a screen on it otherwise...

Last fall before storage I closed the shut off valve and ran the engine until it sputtered. (I also have an electronic shutoff). Two days later noticed carb was leaking. I let it leak all winter....

carb diaper?

I have a ''no name''carb. It was leaking a bit so put in new gaskets. It still leaks, maybe a tablespoon 24-36 hours. Sometimes more. I've made no other corrections: adjust float, float valve, etc....

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. There still seems to be, in general, a negative reaction to Chinese manufacturing regarding automotive parts. That's why I was looking for some ''real proof''...

I just received a complete set of wheel bearings and see they are made in China. Brattons sells U.S. and Mexico made wheel bearings. I was going to return the Chinese products but would like to know...

For winter storage ,would it be best to close the gas shut off valve and run the engine until the gas is out of the carb and sediment bowl rather than leave gas in the system?

I successfully removed the gas gauge (thanks to your advice) and stupidly put a paper towel in the hole to prevent debri from the old cork gasket from falling into the tank.Well, the towel fell in....
