Re: 1935 Ford Model 51 truck driveshaft lubrication?

If, or when I'm assembling my cars, (engine, trans, or rear) I apply the Corn Head Grease all over and around the universal joint by whatever means available at that time (I call this buttering),...

Re: 1935 Ford Model 51 truck driveshaft lubrication?

Yes, the universal joint must be lubricated. There is a zerk grease fitting on clamshell housing/covers to be used for this purpose. I use John Deere Corn Head Grease to lube the universal in my...

Re: '38 Ford gear oil flowing from trans to diff??

Will, I normally remove and install these rears by leaving the spring attached to the rear, and then dismantle the spring until just the main leaf is attached by the shackles, then remove the shackle...

Re: 35 Three Window Coupe Proportions

Right on Ralph! If someone gave me a '36 3w coupe, I'd be out the next day looking for all the component parts needed to convert it to a '35   :p :D ;)

Re: 35 Three Window Coupe Proportions

The '34 3w is definitely a class act, plus I've always felt the '33 & '34 Ford's had "THE" best looking styling of all the early Ford V-8's, but when comparing '35 3w to a '36 3w, the '35 wins hands...

Re: '38 Ford gear oil flowing from trans to diff??

*I started this reply but got sidetracked and then came back and finished the post. So I've repeated some things already posted by Terry*

Yes, that zerk is there to lube the center of drive shaft...

Re: '38 Ford gear oil flowing from trans to diff??

Another thing I've noticed when working on these rears is...some folks like to pump lots of chassis grease into the zerk fittings at the small end of the axle housings.
• First, this is not the...

Re: '38 Ford gear oil flowing from trans to diff??

I've taken a good number of these early Ford banjo rears ('35-'40) apart in over 60 years of playing with these old Fords, and probably 9 out of 10 times, those axle housing lip seals were bad/worn...

Re: 35 Three Window Coupe Proportions

Very cool painting of your car, Peter!!

My all time favorite built '35 3window coupe!! If mine looks half that nice some day, I would be extremely happy.

Re: Need for early condensers?

The original early Ford coils, from say '32 to '48, were wound with inferior insulation on the magnet wire as compared to insulated magnet wires available today. Even the pouring resins, or other...

Re: Battery purchase & best shut off location

Not in my humble opinion.

A battery cutoff switch provides a safety feature from short circuits, or high current leakage that can happen during times of high humidity, and other unforseen...

Re: Battery purchase & best shut off location

I'm using a 6V Red Top Optima battery that's mounted vertically in the stock '35 battery box, about 2" below the original battery rails/cross brace mounts. This puts the top terminals below the...

Re: What happens in a transmission rebuild - Part 3

Great thread Mac! Thank you!

Those cleaned castings look so nice.... I may want to find a shop in my area that has that same cleaning process for castings, and give it a try on my next project.

My mostly original '35 fordor (Avatar) had 41k miles on the odometer when I bought it in 2007. I believe the generator was the original, installed at the factory, and it has what appears to be an...
