flathead V8 4x2 intakes

Hi all, I'm trying to find out which, if any of the flathead 4x2 intakes had individual runners as opposed to a plenum.

I did try posting on the HAMB, but little response.

Thanks guys.

Re: Cold air plenum for carbs

No other opinions? I hope some old time lakes racers, Pete etc would have something to say?

Re: Cold air plenum for carbs

Thanks Ronnie. I didn’t know if 97’s like having air pushed through them, some carbs don’t.
I know there is a possibility of running lean, but with a flatty running out of air high up the Rev...

Cold air plenum for carbs

Hi everyone.
I have a model A roadster with a full hood, running a healthy 293” flathead underneath with 3 97’s on a straight linkage.
The under hood temp can really get hot, surely sucking all...

Re: 8BA Edelbrock head clearance

Just bringing up an old thread of mine. Ended up borrowing a few heads. None of the off the shelf heads fitted with my .430” lift cam and 1.72” valves. Ended up getting a pair of MCF heads from...

Re: 8BA valve seat grinding

I think I’ve sussed it. Just needed to go a bit deeper with the 30 degree first.
One final question, how far do your valves normally sit above the deck height once set?

Re: 8BA valve seat grinding

Hi all, thanks for the replies. As I stated in my original post, I understand that the valve isn’t perpendicular to the deck. I’m also using a cutting tool with a mandrel that fits in both the valve...

8BA valve seat grinding

Hi. I’m in the process of grinding my valve seats to set the lash as I have non adjustable lifters. Due to the fact the valves aren’t at 90 degrees to the deck, my cutting tool is creating a larger...

Re: Centre exhaust port baffle or fourth port?

So the general consensus is to forget the fourth port out of the heat riser and go with some homemade we’ll fitting dividers/baffles.

Re: Centre exhaust port baffle or fourth port?

The block will have full cooling system. Racing is everything from drag racing, to hill climbs and sprints to high speed time trials at Pendine.

Re: Centre exhaust port baffle or fourth port?

Hi Tim.
I’ve got JWL’s book and like his divider. I’m just wondering which would be more beneficial, that or a fourth port.

Re: Centre exhaust port baffle or fourth port?

Hi Ralph. If I was to do a fourth port I wouldn’t be dividing the centre into two. I’ll either fit a port divider/baffle OR a fourth port.

Centre exhaust port baffle or fourth port?

Looking for the opinions of the knowledgeable chaps on here that may have done either.

Re: 8BA Valve length

Hi Gary. Those guides would certainly solve my problem on one bank but not on the other where I need 4.945” length valves.
How much are a set of those lifters Gary?
Thanks
Kev

Re: 8BA Valve length

Hello again, I’ve been chatting to you Re lifter radius via PM
Yes the valve seats have been cut for three angle and set so the valves are equal to the deck height on both banks, so not incorrectly...

Re: 8BA Valve length

Hi Laurie, that’s what I thought I would need, 0.100” over valves. But on measuring one bank that works fine, the other bank requires 0.040” longer valves?

Hi all.
I’ve just spent a few hours this evening mocking up some stock Chevy Manley 1.6 valves with my Potvin 425 cam. I’ll be using stock non adjustable lifters so was measuring to see what valve...
