Re: Ford Liquamatic auto trans in '41 Merc/Lincoln- has anyone seen one?

I didn't know Greg Schneider but knew Bill Norton. Used to talk with him every year when he was at the Portland Swap Meet. It was always and experience! I always smile now when I walk past where his...

Re: Ford Liquamatic auto trans in '41 Merc/Lincoln- has anyone seen one?

My late friend and mentor Bill Steil in the 60s bought out 3 Ford Dealerships to get the old stock parts. He had a couple of new Liquimatic cases and assorted parts that a V8 Club member from...

Re: Horn relay sparks/install question

With the car (ignition switch) ON and the car not running you may very well burn up your coil
and or points depending on how the points landed when you shut the car off. Skip Haney can fix that...

Re: corrosive red re '33-'35 fuel gauge

If someone tried to blow air into the tank to move fuel up to the pump it could also push the liquid out the top of the glass tube in the gauge. So don't attempt that on a car with a hydrostatic fuel...

Re: 1937 distributor quizz question........

I would be willing to send a nice original brown coil to skip for you, so that you only have to pay him to rebuild it and the shipping would be one way to you. In my opinion this is much better than...

Re: Water in oil what next.

Did you retorque the heads after the initial fire up. I always retorque at least 3 times. You may just (hopefully) have a bad head gasket like TJ said. I hope you have good luck.

Re: Which motor is it?

Maybe early Merc block like Dale's truck. What is that weird looking thing on the intake, a governor?

Bill Schwartz, I am pretty familiar with 40 Fords, where does the brass connector you speak of go?

Re: Late intake on early V8?

A 49-53 intake will work fine on a 59 series engine. I have a 4bbl one on my 40 coupe that has a 59 series engine. There may be some bolt holes unused and as you stated, could use the breather hole...

Re: Brake pedal travels too far

We all need a sign above our workbench that says "NEW does not equal GOOD".
Trouble shooting by replacing things in today's world is harking back to a previous time, maybe 50 years. Try to test...

Re: Banjo Steering Wheel - why are they sought after?

When I looked at the avatar picture, I thought it was a sedan. Didn't notice it was a pickup. I shouldn't have mentioned if the top was off!

Re: Banjo Steering Wheel - why are they sought after?

If the horn button is the same diameter and rod is the same length, you MAY be able to just use the later banjo wheel on your 35. I have a 37 banjo in my 32 5w, and I swapped the 37 horn button onto...

Re: GENERATOR 40 Ford Sdn.

If anyone is confused, what we call an intake manifold, Ford called a valve chamber cover.

Re: What did I find inside my rad?

My guess is from inside an anti-freeze cap that had stuck to the gallon jug and went into the radiator when pouring in the liquid.

Re: 47 Ford - 3 on the Tree question (Clutch question)

Hi Dick, I had a 2001 F250 that had to have the clutch depressed to start. Don't recall earlier vehicles which were probably too old anyway.

Re: Is this normal?

That guy in Oregon (Eric?) maybe he relocated. Unfortunately, it is EASY to get that much money into a flathead nowadays depending on what you want.

Re: off-topic, but...

Well, I guess this forum is no longer just about flatheads and keeping them on the road. There must be a forum for electric cars somewhere that Merc would be appropriate. Old Fords with BBC and SBC...
