Re: New engine - intermittent backfiring - stuck valve?

Did you happen to get the radiator cap and gas cap switched? Run it without the gas cap on or when it starts to act up take the gas cap off and listen for it sucking in air when you do.

Re: Drain valve question

Is there enough space below the baffle to allow one to "carefully" drill a small hole through the baffle so the water level could be seen?

Re: U joint felt seals.. how do you fit them?

I've cut strips of cork gasket material to lay in the groove to take up some of the space making them fit tighter. I use a little bit of silicone gasket maker to stick the cork into the bottom of the...

Re: Rusty Coolant

I've seen this stated numerous times on this and other forums. I just don't see it happening but if so what diameter hole does one need to put in a container of a 50/50 mix to separate the coolant...

Re: Checklist for startup after 10-month unplanned hiatus

So it has sat for 10 months. To me that is not an especially long time.
I've opened up quite a few engines (Model A and others) that have sat much longer and they still have a good layer of oil on...

Re: Rear Axle Taper - What It Does

Jim if you add another shim and the nut won't go on far enough to fit a cotter pin you can sand some of the back side of the nut off allowing the pin to be fit.

Re: adjustable tappets

Bill,

It's a pretty straight forward job but does require the engine to be torn down to the basics and not a job I would want to do while the engine is in the car.

First the head, oil pan,...

Re: Mystery missfire .

Change the order of the spark plugs and see if the miss fire follows #4 plug.

Re: Running engine with no dip stick?

Never done this before today but by accident I didn't push my dipstick in all the way in after checking the oil and drove the truck 15 miles.
Yep it make a bit of a mess. Very glad I didn't drive...

Re: Hard turning with new pistons

I'd be inclined to strip it back down to just the crank and start over again.
If you can't get the crank to rotate freely with .0015 on the mains your trouble most likely is there. Add the cam...

Re: Ignition timing question

Instead of using the timing pin use a short phillip's head screwdriver to find the dimple.

Re: Purpose of dual points?

Lots of good information from you all!

Okay this is starting to make more sense to me. I was trying to figure out why the points weren't opening and closing the same. This is helping.

Purpose of dual points?

Okay so I have been messing about with a Mallory distributor that was on one of my industrial Model A engines.
It seems to me that to have it work properly both sets of points will need to open and...

Re: Mixing lifters

I'm not saying that I want to I'm only throwing it out there for thought. However there are a lot of folks out there that may not necessarily have the money to do a full swap and this looks like it...

Mixing lifters

This evening I was working on lapping in some original style valves and a thought ran across my mind. A person has plenty of time to think while lapping in valves...

So I did a search and didn't...

Re: st"A"rt in 46 seconds

Honestly guys I'm not seeing the many mistakes you are saying that were made.
Yes the choke looked as if it slipped right back in but it was already probably warmed up.
I froze the video in...

Re: Oil Pump and Valve Chamber Question

Rock the engine back and forth a bit forth a bit. Might just have a bit of a bind against the cam shaft. Put something soft under the oil pump in case it drops out while you are doing this.

Re: Fumbled a piston

Thanks for all of the advice.
I have two of the industrial / binder engine power units. Between the two I should have enough parts and pieces to make one complete unit to use as a running display....

Re: Tighten the 21" rims straight

Werner I installed a Warford overdrive in my AA truck this past winter. With the increase in speed I had some balance issues I never had before because I couldn't go fast enough for an out of balance...
