Re: Stromberg carb

All you have to do is see the low price. That says it all. I would stay away. Poor quality Chinese.

Re: Holley 94 rebuild time

I agree, the original type brass fuel valve seat and steel needle are great. No synthetic material to deteriorate and they last almost forever.
If your carb still has this type, I would re-use it....

Re: Holley 94 rebuild time

I agree a leather pump piston is probably best as far as lasting longer with ethanol in the fuel. The spring under the piston cup helps take slop out of the accelerator pump rod linkage for a quicker...

Re: Need help identifying these wheel covers

I'm assuming the tri power 390's in early '62 Fords had the 15" wheels also, since the were solid lifter and higher compression engines too (401 HP). The 406 wasn't available until later in the model...

Re: 4 barrel carb for 55 - 272V8

Like dmsfrr stated you have a '56 intake manifold (ECZ-A) that requires the carb with the choke assembly mounted to the carb and not the manifold like '55 had. I have some restored '56 Holley 4000...

Re: Stock 57 Fairlane 500

Herman,
The modification for ported manifold vacuum can be reversed, but not real easy. It can be done though.
Since you have a good original '56 distributor with a good dual diaphragm, it...

Re: Stock 57 Fairlane 500

Herman,

If you do have your teapot 4 barrel rebuilt to use again, it can be easily modified to supply the right amount of ported manifold vacuum for the '57 and later distributors with...

Re: Stock 57 Fairlane 500

Herman Munster,

I have a couple of restored Holley 4000 teapot four barrel carbs if you decide to go back to the A manifold and original type carb. They are Holley # LIST 1161.

Re: Stock 57 Fairlane 500

"Ford did offer a 292 in '57 with 4-bbl & dual exhausts in some passenger cars. I think all the T-Birds had the 312 with 4-bbl"

All 292's in cars and T-Birds had a two barrel carb in 1957. There...

Re: 170 6 cylinder stalls on acceleration

Nice Loadomatic description, except I disagree in the second paragraph it says it was used on V8's from '49 through '67.
V8's used it from '49 thru '56. Six cylinder engines used it from '49 thru...

Re: 2 barrel carb

I guess we'll just leave it at that. I retired from Ford Powertrain Engineering (engine calibration) and with all the emissions regulations and EPA law suits against auto companies, something like...

Re: 2 barrel carb

The ECG 5 carb with manual choke is what came on '55 272's originally. Will work fine on your '56 272.

The EBU as stated above looks like it may have been used as overflow for early '55 272's...

Re: 2 barrel carb

This picture is still the wrong side to see the embossed model on the other side of the bowl. Also on the rear of tha carb about halfway up it should have the venturi size (1" for EBU model, and 1...

Re: 2 barrel carb

Sorry, but respectfully I disagree that EBU carbs were used at all in the '55 model year. The 272 in '55 required a different (larger) venturi size (1 1/16"). I don't think engineering would release...

Re: 2 barrel carb

Can't tell for 100% sure from that picture, but that carb is either a '54 EBU carb, or a '55 ECG carb since it has the spark valve on it and a manual choke. The model name should be embossed on the...

Re: 2 barrel carb

If your carb is the three bolt two barrel it is made by Holley, however some were made with FORD script on them. Kit's are available at most auto parts stores (Walker, G.P sorensen etc.) but...

Re: 1965 ford falcon issue

Just as a note since I know this post is over 6 years old, I prefer to time my carburetor at 10 degrees BTDC.

Re: whee ID

To me, I don't see a reason why Ford and Mercury used different bolt circles and center hole sizes. Design engineers must have not communicated or cared to make things common.

Re: whee ID

Thanks Lanny. At least I was correct about it not being a 4 1/2" bolt circle. LOL

Re: Crank shaft flange

"I think the rear main seal is leaking too."

That's design intent on a Y Block. Kind of like an old Harley. Wants to mark it's spot.

Re: whee ID

I thought when I was a kid, my '55 Mercury had 15 X 5.5" wheels ? It's been a long time though (52 years) since I owned the car. I could be wrong.

Re: Tailgate emblem and bezel?

'53 and '54 car trunks did not use a bezel with the plastic colored center. '52 did use the plastic emblem, but the bottom of the bezel had a lip to grab to open the trunk. Different than the one you...

Re: Hot '53 Mercury flatty

I agree. Pretty rare to see power steering on a '53. First year it was offered, and only year it was on a flathead.
