Re: Rough spot

I'd try removing the belt(s) and running it first. Could be something up front out of balance. As for a "balancer" for the front of the crank...not really since the engine is internally balanced and...

Re: 49 ford 3 speed and overdrive

Bob's correct. Hooked to the solenoid batt side, the charging current will flow straight to battery without registering on the meter, which will only show discharge when loads are applied.

Re: 49 ford 3 speed and overdrive

If your alternator output wire is hooked to the starter solenoid, your ammeter won't show charge. Can you check voltage at the battery (not amps on the dash gauge) when lights and OD are on? That...

Re: 1941 Ford pickup seat

I use one of these in my '41 Merc. Huge difference! Not cheap but absolutely fixes the seating /sore back problem.

Re: 47 pickup second gear pops out

Dot 3 will mix with water and look like milky water...silicone won't and will separate when you try to mix them.

Re: lowest oil pressure for engine to survive

In my opinion, you and murre had the correct answers and procedures in posts #10 and #11.

So no amount of fool-proofing will overcome the efforts of a sufficiently motivated fool? Darn...:D

Re: 255 merc excessive ring end-gap?

A .040" set of rings is .010" larger in diameter than your .030" set. Multiply the .010" difference by Pi and you get approx .031" more circumference. Should be more than enough (with some filing) to...

Re: Installing Rear Hub On A '40

Correct! I've built rear axle assemblies for drag cars and that's the way to choose what axle strength is required for a particular engine/trans/torque level/gear ratio. That first gear ratio is a...

Re: Running Rich

Also, check the MAP sensor for a leaky hose or a bad sensor. Fords rely heavily on the MAP to control mixture. You need a Hertz (cycles pr second) sensor to test it...it varies frequency rather than...

Re: 239 / 2gc idle issues

Ok. Something's not right in the tuning if a lower idle can't be achieved. Maybe a vacuum leak (although rich running doesn't point to that) or maybe an idle circuit problem in the Rochester. That...

Re: 239 / 2gc idle issues

1. Are you running a stock cam? A performance cam will exaggerate this problem.

2. Is the timing set at approx 4 degrees at idle speed?

3. Does the engine try to die when put in gear...

Re: feul pump problem 49 ford flathead

If the rear cam bearing is installed with the hole for the rod not properly aligned this can happen. If it's just a slight misalignment you may be able to get something down there to massage that...

Re: Noise in 2nd gear 39 Transmission

It's worth considering a loose u-joint bolt at the trans output shaft as well. That allows excessive end play in the trans and can show up in 2nd gear as a first symptom.

Re: Can a cracked block be fixed?

A '46 would not have sleeves originally so it's been repaired previously. The sleeve that's moved will have to come out before inspecting the block for extent of crack and possible repair. As Murre...

Re: 59a with Scat Set Up Your thoughts please.

Maybe I'm wrong, but looking closely at the pic without the head those pistons look like they are domed by the way the light reflection bends. I'd pull a head and have a look for sure (the OP says...

Re: Axle Identification

Looks like an 8" Ford to me. Early Mustang,Maverick,Fairlane, etc. Resembles a 9" but the bolt pattern on the drop-out center section is more oval shaped.

Re: 1 Fly wheel 2 PP thread bad

I think your fix will work just fine. If your "new" bolt made torque and felt solid doing so, I don't see any reason to worry.

Re: Noise at higher RPM?

Agreed. And maybe rod bearing noise too for good measure. :(
