AFTER you remove the 2 bolts be careful as you remove it OR it will come apart (don't ask me how I know :):eek::)).

Here in Central Ct labor is "about" $120, Honda is at $145, some of the Brands in Hartford are hovering around $160+ and very few would touch an A. JMO

Where are you and how hot is it?? Is the "noise" there only with the engine off? Could be fuel in the carb bowl "boiling".

Joe's is 1111111hr 45 min, Gotham about 1 1/4 hr away. Will call both Mon am.

I missed a show today and 1 tomorrow. I think there's one left in 2 weeks and then the CSRA swap meet.

FINALLY............I was able to get a small s/driver between the case and bell housing and finally able to get it out. NOTHING looks damaged, Bendix gear moves nicely on the spiral, spring, locking...

UPDATE: Motor locked. I read several dissertations on how to remove the starter and now that I screwed up I have the starter shell out on the ground BUT the armature and nose are "locked" solid in...
