Re: Wisdom of Stopping Engine by Choking It Out

Yes very true about superior metals and machining, -and add synthetic oils to the reason for better longevity too, ...not so much on the fuel injection.

Re: Starter windings . . . a Look-See

I thought you said this car was restored? :D

Honestly, what I am seeing is a starter that was overheated. Not sure if it was because of the lacquered cloth being old, -or from a 12 volt...

Re: Body Lines of Model "A"

My vote is the tire cover. I don't feel Ford ever intended them to be a family car. It was to be a sporty Coupe. The trunk on many cars kills the look IMO.

Re: Begging to be a hot rod.

I guess I am missing something but I fail to see how a burned contact would cause an engine to shut-off after driving 500 feet.

The burned contacts could be from several things. It can be from a...

Re: Wisdom of Stopping Engine by Choking It Out

I am not necessarily disputing or disagreeing with you on the 'restart' assistance.

I agree you never mentioned rust however I have looked at many cylinders doing inspections and they tend to...

Re: Wisdom of Stopping Engine by Choking It Out

Just to muddy up the waters here a bit. Ponder these thoughts for a bit;

.. ~ If gasoline typically evaporates when exposed to heat, what happens when a teaspoon, --or maybe two drips into a...

Re: Centering 1930 Model A Deluxe Coupe on towing trailer

Ivan, welcome to Fordbarn! Typically, the balance point of a Coupe will be the drain plug on the transmission. Too many other variables to give advice without seeing all the package (i.e: type...

Re: counter weights needed?

When I read this topic, the keyword is "needed". Are they "needed"? 'No' is my answer. Are they an advantage? 'Yes'. Is it smoother? 'Can be.' but not always. Does it "rev higher"? ...

Re: Ford verse Chevrolet

Mike, while the Great Depression was definitely felt, 75% of the citizens in this country still had jobs during that economy. Chevrolet outsold Ford during the worst years of that depression, so I...

Re: Ford verse Chevrolet

Several things to comment on. Ford outsold Chevrolet in 1929 (his biggest year) and in 1930. In 1931 Chevrolet outsold Ford nearly 3 to 1, and it would be several years after before Ford would...

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

This is probably the last time I am going to discuss this until I hear back from how the lawsuit comes out. I may be called as an expert witness, which is another reason why I am going to stop for...

Re: Brake Cross Shaft Diameter

The area directly inside of the cross shaft levers (arms) will not have any wear. The OD of that area will be the same as the bushing area as it was machined in one op.

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

Dean, you are approaching this from a logical standpoint however not a lawful standpoint. The manufacturer stated the VIN for the vehicle would be the engine number. Ford had a protocol when...

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

Actually, the rules have not really changed. It's just that many people are unaware of the laws. Just like what many people posted above, what seems logical is not always lawful.

When the...

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

Some very interesting comments & opinions. Ironically the correct answer is listed in the Ford Model-A Instruction Book. The legal keyword is 'grandfathering' in determining the correct answer.

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

Interesting perspective. The name on the title shows who is the legal owner of item possessing that VIN. No reason to 'retire' a legal document since the item it is representing is still a tangible...

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

Legally, the title (-and the number listed) is the documentation that proves rightful ownership of one of those two items. Each state typically recognizes an assembled group of parts as a...

Title goes with Frame or Engine?

I fielded an interesting question on a topic that has been around for years but maybe modern laws change the obvious answer.

Scenario;

An incomplete Model-A chassis is being dismantled by a...
