I'd test the gauge using alligator clips,wire and a 9V batt. Pulling the speedometer makes it easier to get to.

The pinion gear bearing surface is larger on a 35-36 than a '34.In fact the 33-34 bearing surface is nearly the same dia as the od of the 10 splines. and the pinion length is a bit longer on the '35...

If you bead blast it don't do the underside as the imbedded material will find its way down inside the engine or steam clean it to purge that stuff.

The only 35 repop grilles I am aware of were made many yrs ago in Australia. Its been so long that I can't remember the differences if any. Post a pic of what you found or have.
