Re: Sediment Bowl Gasket

At my age of 77, and having dealt with bowl gaskets on my tractor and now, my Model A, sometimes they reseal, sometimes they don't. The local rural auto parts store carries them, I don't keep extras...

Re: Anybody modified an ATV/mower snow plow for Model A?

Having done snow plowing, there is always that bump or obstruction in the road that causes the blade and mounting to have heavy extra load! And the sad thing, being under the snow, ya never see it in...

Re: Letís amp it up

If the Ammeter was in a condition of being stuck to one side, it may just be a bad meter to start with. I have listed some other things to do, but to me, the meter was not centered to start with and...

Re: Letís amp it up

Exactly! A method that takes effort would be to set up a test jig, (external from the car) with a known load, and two ammeters in series in the circuit, then get the amps to read 20, ( or some even...

Re: Membership dropping, interest too???

Club membership to me, is not a measure of vintage/Classic car interest! I would venture, it is just not the way people want to enjoy their interest, for some it is still OK, but.......
I did some...

Re: Letís amp it up

Ammeters, are basically a very sensitive voltmeter with a shunt across the terminals to only allow a very small micro voltage to operate the voltmeter and the scale on the meter is calibrated in...

Re: The Wrong Path Taken

Thanks for the advice! As I look back on the chain of events, at age of 77, it is just another learning lesson. Will work on your suggestions. Thank you!

Re: Double Nutting advice

Removing stubborn studs is always an issue. Double nutting comments are good and heating is usually needed on stubborn studs but so is patience! Sometimes lots of patience and heat and hammer tapping...

The Wrong Path Taken

The headlights on my original 6 volt Model A were just not very good. The reflectors had been messed with and would need re-silvering or replacement, whoever had the car before me did a wiring loom...

Re: putting gasoline in your Model A

Never had a problem here locally filling the tank with fuel. Not sure the difference on filling. My tank has the spark arrestor!

Re: Electrical short blows lights

You don't have a short! If bulbs are burning out, you have a bad connection in the charge circuit that is allowing the charging system to overcharge and put high voltage to the bulbs. Gotta find the...

Re: 30 PU max safe driving speed

My concern is how fast I can stop the car if I am doing 50mph and need to get it stopped. I have done my best to assure the brakes work as Henry intended, but not much tire surface on the road. 50MPH...

Re: Gas Tank Rust - MMO, 2 Cycle Oil

This is not a can of worms, but it provides one more band-aide approach to fixing a gas tank rust problem that basically gives the owner something to do while deciding if the right thing should be...

Re: Weard leaks

Run the engine, get it good and warm! Turn if off, let it cool and re-torque the head. This is done by loosening and re-tightening the head bolts. For the bolt by the distributor, use a crows foot to...

Re: Gas tank seeping.

Gas seepage or leaks of any kind are bothersome from a safety standpoint. And doing a repair with sealer does not solve the original leak problem, it just band-aides it! And once the sealer starts...

Re: Like picking at a scab: let's discuss 'oil'

I read someplace about zinc being an important additive for the Model A. So I use Valvoline VR1! And this car does not get many miles, and running the engine just the little I do gets the oil black....

Re: Head lights

I have done the sealed beam conversion! Allow me to share, only halogen 6 volt sealed beams are available! Current draw goes up considerably. I wanted to retain 6 volts! With that said, the issue...

Re: 600w

Just my opinion, but seals of the day were just not what they are today! Also with the trans not being synchromesh, high viscosity lube helped slow the gears between shifts. Henry knew this and...
