Re: Sediment Bowl/Fuel Line Question

Update: Re-did the line and shortened up the first section so it looks like msmaron's and then made one large radius smooth bend to the front of the Model B carb. I drained the fuel tank while doing...

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

John, I used used 30 weight non-detergent oil for that reason. I plan to do the pan pretty soon. It will be before I start driving it again and after getting the fuel and radiator all sorted.

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

I gave a quick flush with just a hose and bucket while I work on another contraption. Got a lot of murky water and debris. Ran the hose through the upper hose until the water ran clear. Then...

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

John, I changed the oil and need to replace the pan gasket and will be cleaning the pan when I do that. I have seen that video and it is crazy!

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

What's the best way to flush the block? I have to imagine it's as bad in there as it was in the radiator. I was going to run distilled water with Redline Water Wetter.

Re: Sediment Bowl/Fuel Line Question

Thanks for the picture. I will bend up a new section with a smoother bend. Do you think that could have caused the backfiring while in third year? Carb bowl not fully refilling quickly enough?

Sediment Bowl/Fuel Line Question

Guys and gals, are the bends too tight on the fuel line I used here between the carb and the sediment bowl? I will bend a new one with a smoother bend if you guys think it is an issue. Thanks!

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

I replaced the spark plugs with some hotter ones. I went with Champion W16Y I bought on
After taking it for a spin, I still had bad overheating problems. I pulled the radiator to swap the spare I...

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

I have been doing some work on the truck recently. I replaced the tires that had a date code from 1943 with some fresh Goodyears:

Another topic, I have been trying to flush out the radiator and it comes out looking like this:

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

I am not sure if I have an unregulated generator or not. Should I replace the bulbs and see how it goes or is there a good way to test the connections to see if there is a bad connection? They worked...

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

I figured out that the bulbs are blown and that's why I lost the headlights during the last drive.

Re: Frame Number For Registration

I suppose I could. I should be fine now since I have the engine with the correct VIN.

Frame Number For Registration

Thanks Tom. I will call the dmv today and ask if that will work. The etching might be a good way to prove I actually have the engine in my possession.

Re: 1931 Pickup Journal

I think you're right. A shop had some dyno numbers with the various combinations, but the B carb didn't look like it really have any gains. I changed the oil before running it. The oil pan and rear...

Re: Frame Number For Registration

Good news guys! Turns out the original VIN is on the spare motor. I will have to figure out if a picture of if is sufficient for the DMV or what, but problem solved (theoretically). Thanks for the...

Re: Frame Number For Registration

I am just trying to avoid having to pull the body off. The last thing I want to have is have issues with stubborn bolts and finally et it off to find that the number on there still doesn't match.

Thanks. Truck doesn't have a name, we all just refer to it "The Model A." He and my mom, aunts, and uncles are all very pleased. I am going to have to find the pictures of them in the truck as kids....

This option is seemingly more and more likely. I might just register it out there next time I'm back home.

Re: Frame Number For Registration

Ed, this is how the VIN was verified when my grandpa registered it after it sat for a while. This is the same engine that has been in it since he got it in the 1950s, so I am not sure what exactly...

Re: Frame Number For Registration

That's a good idea. I might give that a shot. If that doesn't work and showing the registrations from all the previous years doesn't work either, I might just leave it registered in California.

I asked if someone can come to my house to do it and the answer was no. I can take it to most car dealerships or the title bureau/DMV. :(

Re: Frame Number For Registration

Larry, thanks for the reply. I looked up the number stamped on the engine and it starts with an "RF" which it appears to mean it is a replacement motor from the Richmond plant. Is it easy enough to...
