Re: johnsons rod shop
This is their site. It came right up when I clicked. Their site does not indicate that they are closed-up. They build some 'kick-ass' cars, for sure. Hope this helps! DD

Re: Question about 32-34 spindles
And as such, the MYSTERY piece should stay stationary with the king pin, as the king pin is locked-in with the axle, keeping it from rotating when the spindles 'turn'. With that mystery piece...

OR....maybe that wire(s) is/are LOOSE at the switch. Just work thru it systematically, one step at a time, so that you KNOW where the problem WAS! DD

Re: 8BA oil canister bolts
I guess I lacked a whole lot of clarity with MY statements. The pattern on the two examples I posted APPEARS to match the stock pattern that Jim (19Fordy) showed with the Merc head, especially with...

Re: 47 Ford Headlights

Even though the OTHER lights around the car (tails, parks, etc.) are working, there could still be a problem with the HEADLIGHT bulb circuit going through the HEADLIGHT switch. Or, the wires on...

Heavens NO! That sounds like someone with dung for smarts got completely carried-away with one of the dumbest "SOLUTIONS" to a problem requiring a much more reasonable, and acceptable approach to...

Re: Flathead ID

The strange "firing order" markings on the heads, along with some other details, generally point to these as being a '37-ish Ford "Pilot" engine. There's one in my '37 coupe. About a gazillion...

Re: 1947 Ford - convert to open drive line
And interestingly, I went looking for the weight differences to satisfy my own curiosity. The '57-'59 9-inchers (the 'clean' ones....pictured...like in MY coupe) weigh 197 lbs. with a "Trac-Lok". I...

I'd be reluctant to use a 2" spacer in that crossmember. MAYBE a 1"....on a 'good' day. You really need to find yourself a NOS spring. Maybe Kube can chime-in here on that. NOS springs sure...

Re: 1947 Ford - convert to open drive line
There's an awful lot that can be said FOR, and AGAINST using a Ford 9" rear end, especially in a street-driven "hot rod", as with this sort of mod, we ain't talking 'STOCK' any more.
No doubt, the...

Re: Pressure plate bolt torques
You're gonna find that these "light" figures are pretty-much correct for a 5/16" bolt, depending on the actual GRADE of steel used. 3/8" bolts are going to require a little more 'oomf' to snug 'em...
