It looks like the spindle arm nuts do not have cotter pins in them either. You need to check that every place there should be a cotter pin has one.

I suspect that the field coils would be the same as a 3 brush generator with possibly different connections. Anyone?

Check your battery grounds, both at the battery and the other end, chassis and/or frame. An extra cable between the frame and engine/trans is a good idea.

What coil are you using? For 12 volt you need one w/a primary winding of ~3 ohms, or one w/a primary winding of ~1-1/2 ohms and a ballast resistor of ~ 1-1/2 ohms (in series w/the coil).

Don't worry about the connections to the ammeter, If you connect them backwards the meter will just read backwards. Easy to fix.

The lower plate that was in the distributor of my A had a fixed point block and the new replacement points didn't line up. I had to source a new lower plate and point block and then file the point...

Re: Jumping 6V with 12V battery

Remove the 6 volt cable and wire from the starter, bolt them together and tape them up. Connect your 12 volt cable to the starter post and the other 12 volt cable to chassis ground and you're in...
