Re: 1930-31 Front Apron Tool Box

Hi Clem,

I am fine and it appears Lymphoma is behind me. Long time no see. I am still running trains on my O-gauge railroad, and it occasionally makes me think of you (see photo). It's a scene on...

Re: Camshaft Plunger !!!!

I have had the experience of a new plunger making a high pitched squeal. There is no need to take the covers off:
1. The squeal will go away as motor oil gets into the plunger;
2. Spray motor oil...

Re: Checking 32 B Compression

Ball park gauge readings should be 14.7 times the 4.6 compression ratio of a stock Model B = 68psig. Dynamic effect due to piston motion will raise the gauge reading a bit more, into the low 70s.

Re: Exhaust manifold Gland Rings.

The gland rings protect the gasket from burnout from the high temperature exhaust gases and direct flame impingement. The glands continued in the Improved 4-Cylinder Engine of 1932-34.

Re: 1930-31 Front Apron Tool Box

JW, you have the correct way to go. My confusion was the location of the brackets. As you say, they pickup the bumper arm attachments and not the screws holding the apron on.
Shortly after posting...

Re: 1931 Model A Victoria Value

Marshal said it all. Heed his words.

Lift up the carpets and check the right & left body sub-rails. If an awl goes into the wood easily, the car will need a body-off-frame wood replacement.

Re: Seat belt mounting

No way are those screws strong enough to withstand the "g" forces of a crash. Attach the seat belts to the body-to-frame bolts.

Re: Compression pressure Model B Ford

Ballpark is 14.7 x 4.6 = 67.6 psig. Dynamic head from piston motion will make the pressure higher, so psig of 70 or more seems reasonable.

Re: Milling the head

I had a Model "B" head milled 0.090" which left about 0.010" depth of the piston pockets, and 0.03" clearance to the pistons. The compression increase was not competitive with a 5.5:1 cylinder head. ...

Re: Favorite/Best Rust Converter

Re: Storing a Model A vertically

Stand it vertically so the back end of the frame transfers the weight / load of the car to whatever you stand it on. I would also loop a safety chain around the engine & frame.

The frame horns...
