Re: What are some of the counter intuitive things you have learned about a Model A?

For new Model A owners, what I recommend is to take your time, do a lot of research before making changes. Do one thing at a time and test the results, it's very easy to introduce new problems that...

Re: Flywheel install tip

Whatever works to get the old style timing gear nut off is ok, just get it off and replace with a modern one. Regarding Harbour Freight, I've always shopped there for the prices and seems like they...

Re: Easter bunny left some not too nice eggs this morning for me.

Crazy weather, we had our roof replaced on our Omaha home in 2014. Got clobbered again in 2017, replaced 2018 then sold the home June 2018. Was worried we'd get hit again before closing. Moved to...

Re: Matching Frame and Engine Value?

In my former state (Nebraska) you can request a title search through the DMV via the vin--the frame number. You can get a record of the last registration if it exists, after that, there are a couple...

Re: Gas gauge repair question

In addition to other suggestions, do not use the neoprene gaskets when replacing the glass, they don't last. Use the cork gasket.

Re: Crankshaft Tool

Awkward to use with pulley end of engine pointing down. Prefer to use a tool designed for the job, much easier.

Re: Crankshaft Tool

A good start but would need to be modified for dial indicator to be centered. Could cut out the center nut and weld a couple of half inch 90 degree pipe fittings on the outer edges for extension...

Re: Vapor Lock

I have been told that Tillotson (pot metal) carbs help to reduce vapor lock. Don't know if this is true.

Re: Driver Licneses In a Model A -- After Oct., 1st

Re: Harbor Freight tape measures come up short

Once had an annoying boss, didn't trust the help, had to measure everything we built. Got ahold of his tape measure and cut off the first inch, replaced the clip. Thought we were going to have to...

Re: VIN Number

You are correct, no need to lift the body completely off the frame but just enough to expose the frame number. That's what I did. This still entails quite a bit of work, had to loosen the body bolts...

Re: Pilot Bearing Question

As long as you have the transmission removed, fix it. .002 problem or not, shaft will continue to wear. Find a good machinist to weld and turn down or use a sleeve. Pulling and installing the...

Re: Oil pressure . . . normal?

I think it is reassuring to know that the oil pump is working even though there may not be much indication after the engine warms up.

Re: Tranny/diff service

I often refer to Le's handbook, it's a great reference but I think taking everything in the book as the...

Re: Crankshaft Alignment/Transmission Problem

This has been my gut feeling as well. Plan to try a different transmission. When I first installed the transmission it shifted hard. Also noticed that the baffle was left off of the input shaft...
