Re: Marco Tahtaras
Sadly missed already. Marco's advice and eye for detail were amazing. He helped me several times with advice on the Barn when I restored my cars. We only met him couple of times at Model A meets....

Re: Pressurized center main bearing?
The hydrodynamic pressure in car engines needed to keep the bearing surfaces separated is far in excess of oil pump feed pressure. Anywhere from maybe 1000 to 6000 or more psi depending on engine...

Re: cracked main bearing
I am thinking it may be possible to affix the thrust face with tiny countersunk screws much as is done to retain aftermarket bronze thrust washers. A simple drill and tap job. A screw could even be...

Re: car heaven
Synchro, New Zealand is a tiny country getting even smaller day by day as we pump ironsand from our beaches into Japanese carrier ships moored off the coast.
At least Aussie mines are inland and...

Re: Wheel Weights
I had spoke weights on one car and they worked fine. We changed the 19's to 16 inch V8's, run tubeless, at my wife's request (her tudor) and I used stick-ons then because they were to hand on my...

Re: RHD air filter?
DAVE, that is a pretty small filter. I imagine air balancing would be needed to equalise vacuum created inside this pod with the ambient pressure in the float bowl, otherwise mixture will be enriched...

Re: Turn signals - not working when engine running
I have found the same thing on several 12 volt old cars. I shortened one coil wire from 7000 ohms down to 3000 ohms, at which stage the RF interference was enough to stop the electronic flasher cans...

Re: RHD air filter?
Here is a couple I did. Slipped onto Model B carbs with a greased felt washer to seal since there is no room for a clamp due to the 2 tooth column proximity. The elbow is 2 inch plumbers copper. The...

Re: 3.54:1 Differential Overhaul
8EL, your calculations assume an isothermal (constant temperature) cylinder compression, whereas the rapid upwards piston stroke makes the event closer to an adiabatic (no heat loss) event. As an...

Re: Ford poured rear bearing
Chuck, I cannot recall the pics, but I think an open groove will spill the pressure from the dynamic hydraulic wedge that is necessary for separation of the surfaces.
Thinking about that I recall...

Re: silicone head gaskets
In 2017 MikeK observed that 50/50 antifreeze will trash a silicone-sealed gasket. That makes sense to me. I have the Snyder silicone gasket under a 5.5 to 1 Snyder head in our Tudor for about 10000...

Re: 1.73" intakes with a Burtz 6.5 head
Dave Mossman in my workshop found the same thing. He had half a dozen Burtz heads milled straight down at the interference point with a 2 inch milling cutter. Terry commented that the water jacket...

Re: Model A and B valve lifter difference
Here is a link to a cam lobe picture that I found in a members car in 2014. At the time Jim Brierly commented in the second post that it did look like too small a followed foot for the lobe grind....

Re: MMO in the Gas
Werner, wintergreen oil contains methyl salicylate. An ester of salicylic acid and methanol. It is a good wetting and creeping agent on metals, smells nice and is useful as an embrocation on the...

Re: B Carb Runs Lean @45 MPH
Stage, my motor is the same as yours. Flow tuned jets, B carb, stipe cam, large inlets, 6 to 1 compression. Running 95 or 98 octane non-ethanol gas. With GAV open 1/4 turn W-6Y plugs were barely off...

Re: 31 Pickup Surging at Idle and Low Speed
On a Zenith one must screw the mixture adjustment inwards(closing the air path) to enrichen, not counter clockwise . It is an air control valve, not a fuel valve.

Re: Need some pistons Knurled
I have a piston expander from 1930's called a Koetheriser. It expands by squeezing the skirt into a more cam-shaped form and then stress relieving the piston by shot blasting inside with small steel...

Re: Restoring steering wheel from broken pieces.
Great methods. For black bakelite and steering wheel repairs I take a 1 to 1 epoxy (polyamide type hardener and resin), mix in a pinch of black iron oxide powder as used to colour cement (Bayer 318M...

Re: Clutch Help/Guidance
A broken centre float a motor mount made my clutch judder badly. Proof to me that those who leave it out of the installation entirely are due for trouble.

Re: lubricating brake components?
I agree with Dave. I use Rocol MTLM. A 50% dispersion of molybdenum disulphide in a bentone (non-melting) grease base. I use it on the distributor cam too. It is called "assembly and running in...
