Re: "Strainer", '40 Coupe Body part?

Jim: I found it listed in the "Ford and Mercury 1940 Body Parts List" of July 1940, under "Back and Luggage Compartment-Continued". It is the last part before the luggage compartment weather strips....

Re: "Strainer", '40 Coupe Body part?

Kube: It may have been a while after the Drake/Carpenter coupe body that I saw them available with the two side strainers (?). They may be available through the secret stock list. The phone guys or...

"Strainer", '40 Coupe Body part?

In the "Golden Era", guys would slash and maim my favorite cars for their immediate purpose. I now have my second coupe that the center brace is removed. Since I'm not hauling a surfboard in the...

Here Is What Really Worked!

This is an old thread, but so often where there has been such a good response the OP often disappears without resolving the question.
From the axle out: Ford axle; '32-'34 spindle; Lacy adapter...

Re: Is there any way to repair the bend Radius Rod

Took a look at paetsgone profile and a '37 and '40 pickup were listed. Both use the same radius rods. '42+ went to open drive. Fred A

Re: Is there any way to repair the bend Radius Rod

Checked elsewhere and pickups were revealed. Pickups or commercials are passenger cars with a bed, etc. '37-'40 radius rods ARE the same (I repeat). That means that millions were made. Fred A

Re: Is there any way to repair the bend Radius Rod

We don't have very much to work with, but this radius rod, if for any '37-'40, is the same. '41 or 2 thru '48 the same. How tough can it be? Give us a hint paetsgone. Inquiring minds: Fred A

Re: Is there any way to repair the bend Radius Rod

We get this often where hours are spent fixing an old ford part that is not at all in short supply in much of the country. Perhaps it is the challenge, but never thought of PA as being like that. If...

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?

I don't yet know how I could get a better number than Mac's. When this thread is beyond dead? As to the sound deadener, 20 pounds must be all since there is none on the floor, dash or remaining on...

I Grew Up In That Town!

Stock shots. About 2/3 of the footage was shot in Burbank, probably about '49'. They seem to have made laps from different directions around Columbia Studio Ranch on Hollywood Way. My studio sense...

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?

The term fly to a motion picture studio rigger or grip is a one syllable verb meaning to pick something up. The load rating of the lifting tools is a function of the weight, plus the safety factor. I...

Weight of '40 Coupe Body?

Body is disassembled in prep for complete stripping. I have the doors and trunk lid, the weight of which can be subtracted from a good number if those extra parts are included. I want to fly the body...

Re: Friend looking for 1929-1931 straight windshield Town Sedan

"Straight Window Town Sedan" is a tougher want than it used to be with the body wood getting even older. Decaying body wood leads to severe rust. Dramatic how the late '31 "slant window" sedans,...

Re: Wood Pieces for 1936 Coupe Seat

I put together a '40 coupe seat many years ago. By 1940 the march toward metal seats was a bit behind for the cheap cars like the coupes. The base had gone metallic but the coupe back frame was still...

Re: 39 Speedo cable bracket

'39 brcket, same a '40 goes in the same place. That place is the underside of the forward port wing of the X member, directly below the pedal shaft. The clutch pedal assembly changed for '40 so the...

Re: Paint colors?

Scott: First, do no harm. That makes black paint on the mechanicals less likely to need fixing in the case of further restoration or repair. Sloppy repairs, the same. To the extent that it is...

Re: Book on 60HP engine. Out of print. Author unknown

I found the book to be heavy on boats and max RPM vintage speed equipment. My use would have been more about the placement in old Fords. Moved on from putting my engines in a '40. Kept the 59A that...

Re: '40 Body Underside Color?

As a deck seaman in the sixties, I was aboard an oil tanker chipping rust. The remedy was a paint called red lead. The keel was laid in '39 about the time my car rolled out. This paint was state of...

Re: '40 Body Underside Color?

Actually, I went to "It's Ford For Forty" first and found no specific answer for this question. No answer was not a wrong answer. We enjoy another great asset here and forgive us if we consider the...

Re: '40 Body Underside Color?

I really latched onto such a convenient variable as the underbody color. For not having a rotisserie, it suits me well to use a popular rust resistant "primer" below and at a later time, after the...

'40 Body Underside Color?

When weather permits, I want to clean and paint the underside of the body. The 1940 Ford Book: offers three choices, body color, red oxide primer, or acceptable black. I favor the red or black. If...

Re: A whole lotta parts in a BW overdrive !

Thanks Mac. I set the project aside and bought a Mitchell. I have had BWs and only got caught with the reverse issue once. The Laycock in my pickup may be the best yet. Fred A

Re: A whole lotta parts in a BW overdrive !

I bought a basket case BW overdrive for Model A torque tube years ago. The local bearing shops showed no interest in small part orders. Might Mac offer those bearings and seals? Fred A

Re: Brake Drum Rust Protection?

I bought the Iron drums because they already were on new hubs, bearings and arced to the shoes. I have other drums that have remained shiny for years while these heavy assed samples went from new,...
