Re: Hubcap restoration

What is the best way to paint the indented lettering on my 40 caps? I always have a hard time doing this.

Re: 40 Ford DLX antenna

Where did you get the big nut that goes on top of the dash? It didn't come in the antenna kit and it wasn't in Carpenter's picture of the fitting? Do I have to improvise?

Re: 40 Ford DLX antenna

Re: 40 Ford DLX antenna

There is a hole there but it is too small for my radio fitting. Did you have to drill it out? Looks like it needs to be 1/2" but not sure. That's why I asked the question.

Re: 40 Ford DLX antenna

What size hole do you have to drill on the top of the dash to accommodate the special nut that retains the radio?

Re: 1940 Radio Installation

I am not going to run a speaker on the radio. This post reminds me that I need to put a piece of rubber to the area between the radio and the dash speaker grille. How thick do you think I need to...

Re: 1940 Radio Installation

Thanks for the picture. Mine looks totally different though. I have the Zenith radio and the hook points are at the rear of the radio and face downward.

Re: 1940 Radio Installation

Seems like the hooks I have would be pulling in the wrong direction. If you use the holes on the lower flange of the dash, they will pull the radio rearward. I can't see how that would hold the...

Re: 1940 Radio Installation

So do the hooks go through the radio brackets or the holes in the dash?

Re: 1940 Radio Installation

I have some holes in those areas going straight up and down under the choke and throttle but they are not going at the right angle to catch the rods. I think I am looking at the wrong holes. It sure...

1940 Radio Installation

I am installing a stock Zenith radio in my 40 wagon. It has updated AM/FM internals. I can't find the holes for the hooks under the dash flange. Is this something you have to drill on the dash...

Re: 1CM Merc Crank In A 40?

Wonder if any anybody has done this. As long as flatheads and earlier pre-8BA engines
have been around, I would think somebody has stroked one.

This is a new NOS block and I can't see boring it.

Re: Carburator problem, I think

In that case, it wouldn't run at higher speeds. Doesn't make sense either way. Suspect the idle circuit clogged. How about linkage sticking like a bad return spring.

Re: 1CM Merc Crank In A 40?

The 2.000 journal is fine but where am I going to find Merc. pistons to fit the 221 block? I'm not building an 8BA. Bore is 3 1/16".

Re: 1CM Merc Crank In A 40?

Will the 4 1/4 crank work in a 3 1/16" bore with the French rod and stock 221 pistons? How good would it run?

Re: 1CM Merc Crank In A 40?

That's a great idea. 6 3/4" rod would make up the difference if I use a 4" Merc stroke and allow me to use stock 221 pistons, right? Are those rods available?

Re: 1CM Merc Crank In A 40?

I am going to build an NOS military engine for my 40. I was hoping I could use the pistons and rods in it. All parts NOS. Hoping to just switch cranks and that's it.
