Re: 1948 f1 metal bed conversion for shortbed

Yes, I received plenty of suggestions, but not one from a person that actually used the kit.
That's what I'm looking for. If someone actually uses something, then they can be a source of opinion on...

Re: 1948 f1 metal bed conversion for shortbed

So, all I ever wanted was for someone to let me know if they have PERSONALLY used a kit, which one was it and how did they like it. I don't how these threads get so off base from where they start.

Re: 1948 f1 metal bed conversion for shortbed

Yes, thank you, I checked it out. I'm trying to find a kit that is a little more reasonable. The Horkey site quotes a price of $933 and then there is a $200 shipping fee. There has to be one out...

Re: 1948 f1 metal bed conversion for shortbed

So, the two companies mentioned in that old thread are both out of business. Has anyone used a kit from a company that is still in business. That would be very helpful.

Re: 1948 f1 metal bed conversion for shortbed

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, Mid Fifties doesn't really have a bed wood kit for a 1948. It lists a so called kit, but with a very vague description and no photos at all. You really can't tell just...

Re: 1948 f1 metal bed conversion for shortbed

Has anyone else installed a wood bed kit in place of their metal bed? I would love to hear from you, and get some details.

Re: 3 speed removal in a 1948 f1

Is it a matter of straight back and up?

3 speed removal in a 1948 f1

I have read that the transmissions are to be removed from the top. I have looked underneath and I swear there isn't enough room to move the rear of the transmission back enough for the input shaft at...

Thank you

Re: 1948 Ford F1 Metal Bed Question

Is there a special kit for replacing the metal bed with wood. I hear it needs spacers to raise the level of the floor. Is there a company that makes such a thing?

Re: 1948 Ford F1 Metal Bed Question

Found 'em.
They are about every two inches down both sides and across the front. They are up on the 1 inch bend that goes up the side.
Now to get those screws out that go across the braces.
By the...

1948 Ford F1 Metal Bed Question

Does anyone know where the rivets are located in a 1948 F1 bed that came with metal over wood. Supposedly there are a lot of them that need to be ground off before the metal top plate can be removed....

Re: Driveshaft and yoke for a 1948 f1 LD 3 speed

Need to be in very good usable condition. Shipping cost is not an issue if you are willing to ship it. This is an important build, so quality parts please.
Thank you.

Re: 4 speed to 3 speed swap in a 1948 F1

Does anyone have a yoke for a 1948 F1 speed open drive? The number for it would be
21C-4841
A correct drive shaft would be great too, but the shipping might be a problem?

Re: 4 speed to 3 speed swap in a 1948 F1

That's what I'm banking on. The clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate are all housed inside the half bellhousing that stays with the motor, so whatever clutch it is will definitely work. The yoke will...

Re: steering box rebuild

Thank you very much for that. I just might reach out to you. I have never done anything like it before, but I'm not afraid to try things.
I appreciate it.

Just because it has so much play in it. Seems like 3-4 inches both ways.

Re: steering box rebuild

That's what I was afraid of. Would it make sense to attempt an adjustment first?
