What was the torque on the axle nut? Not enough torque on the axle nut is the usual cause for this type of failure.

What is your choice and what do you not like about powder coat? Some powder coat is not UV resistant and will create problems. If the work area is not clean there will be junk in the powder coat...

The '32 used the service brakes for the emergency brakes. The interesting thing is that they used the the brakes on all 4 wheels for the emergency brake.
