Re: Friends

I agree. It's really great when you have that one or a few friends where you can rely on getting parts if someone is in need.

I think this is what makes this hobby so special.

Rough measurement to start with "toe" on a '32 front end

I'll cleaned, rebuilt and painted my tie rod and drag link. While putting it back together, what is a good rough measurement for setting toe before the car gets aligned?

I'll be driving it...

Re: J&M Machine?????

I need to bring two 99A blocks to Frank. Both have the same intake seat cracks. Good blocks otherwise. I hope he can work his magic on them.

I agree with Kerk. If Frank C. recommends them, then they are a good shop.

'32 Front Spreader bar WANTED. Patina preferred

Hi All:

I'm looking for a '32 front spreader bar. Would prefer one showing it's age, but would consider all except a stainless piece.

Thanks and Happy 4th of July.

Re: Installing Rear Hub On A '40

I second your Mart nomination. I would think that it would. It is amazing how tight they are on when I'm just placing them on hand tight doing the brakes.

Re: Installing Rear Hub On A '40

Well, it was exactly 51 Woodie described. The axle was perfect shiny metal and, after real close inspection, the lapping compound took the sheen off. I got it really clean and should be good to go.

Re: Installing Rear Hub On A '40

OK, I thought about that and I think/hope you are right. It did seem like there was some lapping compound left over. I'll look it over real good before installing the hub.

Re: Installing Rear Hub On A '40

I tried brake cleaner and it's not taking off the compound. I'll use a little more elbow grease.

Re: Installing Rear Hub On A '40

Question and I don't mean to high jack, but it relates to this discussion.

I used NOS axle shafts and they were perfect, shiny metal. I lapped one side, but didn't install the hub. The...

Re: 32 Model B Cabriolet steering adjustment

Fred @ Southside Obsolete has/had NOS bearing and rebuild kits for these boxes at a very reasonable price. I have one kit squirreled away for mine.

Re: Emergency BrakeCable

Ah, got it. Thank you. Since mine car is a hot rod, the stock set up may not work. Thinking of making a pull rod for some mechanical brake rod.

Re: Speaking of Auto Part Stores I'll share my experience.

I agree with this. I try very hard to find US made parts. Funny thing is a lot of OEM Honda and Toyota parts for our daily drivers are made in the USA.

I have Hagerty as well. They've been real easy to deal with.

Re: help finding a ring gear

I would check with Fred @ Southside Obsolete and/or Michael Driscoll @ Third Gen. Auto.

They both have websites with their contact information.

Re: Help - Ford brake id

I did just this. '42-'48 hubs/drums fronts and '40 hubs/drums on the rear. All four have '40 backing plates. I like the '42-'48 drums due to the ribbing and since it's a fenderless car, you'll see...
