Re: Engine pans

The two places the engine pans bolt onto the oil pan are prone to cracking and breaking since the oil pan bolts are recessed a small amount inside the flange of the oil pan. I put a couple of small...

Re: Amount of oil remaining in the engine

Engine...

As part of pulling my engine to do some work on the AA I decided to see just how much oil is left in the engine after draining the oil.

Re: High compression head choice.

Thanks for all of the input. Very interesting. I'll be going with the 6.0-1 head.

High compression head choice.

I will be installing a Warford overdrive in my 29 AA. I plan to change over to a high compression head. Thoughts on going with the 5.5 to 1 or the 6.0 to 1?

Also are the high compression heads...

Re: distributor shaft

I've drilled several. It's not hard to do and assures that the upper bushing is lubricated.

Re: Water Temp Questions...

How familiar are you with setting the timing on a Model A engine? If it is set too retarded it will cause overheating and no amount of cleaning etc... will rectify its running hot.

Re: Engine assessment

Pulling the engine out and giving it a good once over is a very good idea.
If your compression is good and the cylinder walls aren't all buggered up that is a plus.
It sounds like you want to make...

Re: Weard leaks

I don't think that it should leak after installation of new head gasket.

Everyone seems to have a different way of going about installing a new head gasket. If you are putting in new studs check...

Re: Head Bolt Torque-Hot or Cold?

Here is what I do.
After the initial torque when a head is installed I'll start an engine and run it at idle for 20 seconds and only 20 seconds without any coolant in the engine.
I then wait for a...

Re: Model A Registration Woes

Go to the DMV and be straight up about what is going on. If it can be worked out you will have a car you like and will have no worries going forward.

Motomo

Have you checked your head nut torque since the engine was installed?
If not you might cure your issues just by re-torquing them.
I am a firm believer in checking the torque on a new...

Re: Carb Rebuild

The carburetor cleaner you get in the gallon can at auto parts stores is a very good way to go. It does not affect the brass plugs. I let carburetors soak at least overnight. Soak the jets, floats...
