And THAT answered my own question of why the danged thing was hung up as soon as I'd tighten any bots (clearly, something was binding)


Some careful work on a grinding wheel fixed the problem.

While painting the block, I found a matching serial number (34334) stamped just below the head, near the front. Pictures here:

So, after a long hiatus, I'm finally getting back to working on my truck.


I've had the engine machined - old babbits removed (they were shot right square in the butt), and replaced with inserts....
