Re: Cluster Gear ID

Post the tooth count. We should be able to figure out exactly which gear it is.

Re: Transmission Main Shaft ID Needed

Don’t forget the possibility of this main drive gear being the B-7017 which is the 1932-34 version. The following links to our website pages will make this more clear to you.

Re: 8RT vs Early 24-stud Length

The spacing issues have more to do with the cooling fan structure on the front of the engine….the front edge of the 49-53 fan blade is going to be situated closer to the radiator than the various...

Re: Update on 1928-48 Universal Joint kit installation

The replacement bushings don’t have the snap ring groove in the exact middle of the bushing. It’s important to install them as they come in the package. If you mix up the orientation of the groove,...

Re: Borg Warner Overdrive Slip Yoke

I question the 31 spline count on the slip yoke. All of the Ford light duty 3 speed transmissions, including the R10 overdrive, had 16 splines on the output shaft.

For the slip yoke to slide on...

Re: Mystery Crank Pulley

I think Kube has it right. The 1939 Standard Ford (with the regular 85 hp V8) still placed the fan blade up...

Re: Ultra Sonic Cleaner

The degreasing process is going to vary according to the level of grease buildup on the parts and the amount of precleaning you do. Many of the transmission parts we want to clean are heavily coated...

Re: Ultra Sonic Cleaner

The very first thing I do when entering our transmission repair shop (after turning on the lights) is to hit the switch to turn on the ultrasonic cleaner. We will start using it about a half hour...

Re: Starter Drive Gear

Use 32-47 flywheels on 32-47 engines. Use 49-53 flywheels on 49-53 engines. Don’t mix the two styles as the starter ring gear offset is different.

I purposefully kept 1948 engines from the above...

Re: '48 F1 4 speed trans color

We’ve always painted the 1948-52 versions black in our shop. I’ve never been 100% certain on 1947 and back so we ask the customer what they want for color and try to work with that if doable.

Re: garage/shop related...lights

We went from incandescent bulbs, to fluorescent tubes, to special fluorescent bulbs for cold weather, to LED fixtures in our unheated warehouse. The led lights have been the best for total light and...

Re: Frozen oil filler screw on fan pulley

If you had to drill through the screw, chances are that some metal particles fell into the cavity within the hub. It’s easy to take the fan assembly apart…..I’d suggest doing so in order to give the...

Re: 1936 3 speed trans for parts

The case would be the 48-7006 type and those are practically the same as the 78-7006 cases (as long as the transmission is being built with the 28 tooth cluster gear). Strip out the gears and check...

Re: 49-51 Merc steering gearbox help

I just need the actual thickness of the gasket material. If there’s a scrap left on the cover I may be able to carefully scrape it off and mic it. Thanks for your help!

Re: 80 lb oil pump in 1935 flathead - is this okay?

The original relief spring was designed to relieve the pressure at 50 psi. They went to an 80 lb spring in 1941 when Ford changed the rear crank seal arrangement from the slinger type to the rope...

49-51 Merc steering gearbox help

Re: 8BA Truck Oil Pan Gasket for the cleanout
