Re: Early '28 Model A - possible AR?

Early ‘28 hoods had an upper slant to the top of the louvers that were not parallel to the hood hinge. Lacing on the radiator shell was threaded into holes in the shell. Most had shrouds on the...

Re: Benefits of a thermostat?

Henry hired the best engineers of his time, and I run all my A’s completely stock, so I’ve never seen a need. I trust the engineers, and my cars are still reliable and run well after 92 years. I...

Re: if you could go back in time, what Model "A" parts would you bring back?

Ammeter. Popout switch. Houdaille shocks (though Stipes are very, very good.) Electric wiper. Trunk lid handle.

Re: Won't Start when Warmed Up

That was my problem with my coupe. The clearances mfg specified on current rings and pistons are incorrect for Model A, at least when sleeved back to standard.

Trunk lid handle not locking

My trunk lid lock has stopped locking. The key still turns and the handle opens and closes properly, but it doesn’t lock. Is there a DIY fix for this or should I just take it to a locksmith? It is...

Re: AutoLite heater install

That is the best ex. manifold to have. They are more likely not to sag at the rear. Keep it and find a proper Autolite cover for it. Saying that, the hole in your firewall may still be located wrong....

Re: We want our "A"

A better solution than towing, but up a driveway may not work.

Re: AutoLite heater install

If you have an original rounded manifold setup that cover should set down lower on the exhaust manifold. Something isn’t right. Can you post a picture of your manifolds w/o the cover, and a picture...

Re: We want our "A"

If you tow it by the bumper, attach the tow ropes to the bumper brackets, not the bumper bars, to prevent bending the bars. If you tow it by the axle, attach the tow ropes to where the spring perches...

Re: 28 Roadster Pickup

Offer him $5000 to just take both the woman and the truck off his hands. Might be worth it to him.

Re: AutoLite heater install

I don’t think there is any official way. I don’t connect mine to the heater door in the firewall. I have found it adds one more rattle. Others use a piece of radiator hose to fill the gap, but I...

Re: Starting Troubles

Your tank should hold 10 gallons. 5 gals should show 1/2 full. Your float may not be floating properly. I would not fill the tank until I was certain I would not need to drain it in the near future,...

Re: Starting Troubles

It could be old gas. Bad Ethanol can cause these symptoms. Squirt some good gas (a small amount) or starter fluid in the throat of the carb and then see if it will fire. It might run for only a...

Which adjustments are you referring to? Who rebuilt the carb, and what did that entail?

Re: Engine heat in cold weather

Maybe a winterfront would help. I don’t know if repros are available, but you might be able fabricate something, or just try putting a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to see if that helps.
