That would be a good place to check. If too little as the valves expand the gap could be closing up and not fully seating.

The Model A serial/vin number will only tell you when it was made not what type of body was on the car. If the title show CP that may have been standard code for a two door two passenger car.

I use a cold chisel and split the ring gear to remove, clean up any burrs around where it sits, heat the ring and drop on.
