Re: 1940 Ford Rear Light question
The original tail lamps were painted black inside, so what little light was produced by the tail lamp bulb was absorbed instead of reflected. Although it would not be "original", you can make your...

Re: 1940 Ford Rear Light question
All 1940 Ford Standard passenger cars came from the factory with one chevron shaped tail lamp on the driver's side rear fender. The passenger side rear fender had no light at all. Some states did...

Re: Ford Photos
Thanks for sharing. I've always loved 1940 Station Wagons!
Yours reminded me a bit of one I built back in 1982... I had to make all of the wood too, but mine only took a year to complete. It never...

Re: Ford Photos
Here are photos of my family's 1940 Fords, and Dad's 1953 Mercury Monterey. I bought the 1940 Coupe back in 1974 for $225.00; it was a worn out modified car that I did not complete until 1989. I...

Re: 40 Coupe Trunk Lid Bumpers:
Although my car is a "modified", it is an "early" which also had the October '39 date codes on the glass (Just like today, the "new" cars are released in September or October of the previous year.)....

Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video?
Steve:
No problem, glad to help. You brought back some great memories that dad and I shared that weekend. The photos you attached of your car did not display.
I took a lot of photos that weekend....

Re: 1940 Turns 50 tour in Reno Video?
I had just finished my Coupe the year before. I ran across some of the San Jose 40's at a run to Lodi, CA. They told me about the "40 is 50" tour from Reno, but I knew I was not able to get enough...

Re: Stories from the good ol days ?? Anyone
Dad was a freshman at Hayward High School back in 1945. Back then his first car was a 1930 Chevrolet Deluxe Coupe (3-window with cowl lights, and a rumble seat). Dad lived with his grandparents. The...

Re: Stories from the good ol days ?? Anyone
Years ago I had a neighbor who lived across the street, and was nearing retirement. One day he saw me working on my 1940 Coupe in my driveway.
He walked over and said how much my car brought back...

Re: How to repaint a 1940 Ford Deluxe Dash?
19Fordy:
Thank you for your response! Your car sure has a beautiful interior!
Years ago, before I decided to build my coupe into a "modified" street rod, my original plans were for a restored...

How to repaint a 1940 Ford Deluxe Dash?
Both of my family's 40's are modified, but I have always loved the look of the stock two-toned Deluxe dashboards! I currently have an extra dash I'd like to repaint in the original colors, and...

Re: 1940 vent window
I seem to remember that the vent window levers are held on with small roll pins.
You have to push the roll pins out with a small drift punch and hammer. The reproduced levers come with new roll...

What you need from Bob Drake is:
Speaker boot: 01A-18820 (may be out of stock)
Mounting hooks: 01A-18807
Radio Nut: 01A-18808
Antenna: 01A-18813-D

Re: Amount OF TIME TO BUILD YOUR CAR
The 1940 Ford Coupe in my avatar took me 15 years to complete (I bought it in 1974, when I was just 15 years old, and finished it in the summer of 1989.). With the experience I gained on the coupe,...
