Re: Shock id help for my 56 ford fairlane

dmsfrr, yes that is the correct original Fomoco bracket for the front shocks. Some of the resto parts suppliers used to offer it new, but I haven't seen it in their catalogs lately so I guess it has...

Re: 55 Customline Disc Swap?

Never heard of swapping front disc brakes off of 69 Galaxie. The usual swap is done with late '70's Ford Granada or Lincoln Versailles. Not sure what exact years, but others here know.

Re: Shock id help for my 56 ford fairlane

The original 55/56 Ford car front shocks DID have threaded shafts at top and bottom. Fomoco had a two-hole mount bracket for the bottom A-frame suspension arm, requiring another set of rubber...

Re: 56 Victoria stock rear drums

Looking at it from a different perspective, the '56 Victoria rearend is the same rearend that is used on '55 & 56 sedans, so if you knew of a junkyard that has a drum pile, maybe you could rifle thru...

Re: My Power Steering Control Valve blowed up today

I have also used Lares before successfully for all power steering components and even had them rebuild a steering gearbox, but it's been over 20 years, so I can't testify to the quality they produce...

Re: Y-block distributor wrench ?

If you have one of those sets of 1/8" drive sockets and reversible socket wrench, it would probably work also (without an extension). But you'd need to stand on the exhaust manifolds like I do when...

Re: Y-block distributor wrench ?

I don't have any of those. I happen to have a double-offset 1/2" and 9/16" box end wrench that is perfect for the distributor hold-down clamp bolt. I didn't buy it in a store. Probably picked it up...

Re: My Power Steering Control Valve blowed up today

I'll be the second one to confess I do the same thing, just didn't want anyone to know I was so anal about handling and working on clean parts, unless somebody else fessed up first. Ha.

Re: Can you ID this mystery part on my Y-BlocK?

I noticed you have a car engine oil-pan on it. aren't you scared that when you hit a bump in the road, that the front straight axle won't pop up and crush the bottom of that oil-pan? There is a...

Re: My Power Steering Control Valve blowed up today

They really don't get very cruddy except around the drag link portion where all that grease is oozing out. If I were doing it, I would just scrape off that excess grease, wrap the thing in newspaper,...

Re: 1956 272 flywheel

The flywheel has a dual purpose. The thickness and weight of the metal smooths out the rotation of the crankshaft when the cylinders are firing AND the ring gear around the flywheel engages with the...

Re: 1956 272 flywheel

I would hope that if you saw some flywheels at a swap meet, that the proprietor of the booth would have it marked with chalk or something as to what it came off of, or be able to tell you in person.

Re: Engine miss at 30 MPR

BTW...it's MPH (miles per hour).
Could be that your float is set too low, so that the more gas you use, the closer your float chamber gets to empty, so the engine starts sputtering.
If you have...

How to tag a swapmeet ad SOLD

I have noticed there seems to be no way to delete ads in the swapmeet nor to tag them SOLD, but I have noticed a few are able to tag the ad. How are you doing this?

Re: 1956 272 flywheel

Yes, the flywheels are drilled and TAPPED for the clutch housing which were available in 9-1/2" and 10" clutch sizes for the Y-block engines.
Yes, the flywheels from all the Y-blocks were...

Re: My Power Steering Control Valve blowed up today

Never heard of the control valve blowing up. One of the hoses, yes, but not due to overpressure, but because of old, worn and cracked hoses. Good idea to keep an eye on the main pressure hose from...

So....you converted it to 12Volts using a 1956 Ford generator and voltage regulator, right? Is the generator properly polarized?

Re: The T-Bird was in a rain storm yesterday

Hate to admit I'm becoming a little neglectful in old age, but I haven't lubed my vacuum wiper motor in at least 20 years, but it still works like new and gets plenty of use. Hadn't done a complete...
