TYPE FA seems to be an aftermarket fluid designation only. There is no reference to the description in FORD literature and/or packaging. The above is VALVOLINE's...

FA - FORD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION and PS FLUID.

TYPE F was not a replacement for any DEXRON (GM trade name) - MERCON based ATF.

But LARRY'S BIRD shows the tach gear drive as a roll pin and has that fancy pin for the actual DIST drive gear. So guess you were correct in your...

FORD OIL AND LUBRICATION GUIDE - VOL 69-ST-15

(A-B-C-D) were TYPE A SUFFIX A FORD SPECIFIC blend progression in 1959-1960 - All were TYPE A)

In 1959, FORD blended it's own version of GM TYPE...

In the MPC excerpt I posted above, the 55/56 FORD mldgs were ACCESSORY only and came in a kit. Most likely there was an instruction sheet/template included as there seems to have been no factory...

Recommended method-

The seal(s) are leather and shrink. The brake fluid will get them to swell.

That is the IGN 1. The IGN II does not have (is supposed not to have) that flaw.

Were you able to get the car back to the house? PERTRONIX has a TECH HOTLINE. Maybe they know something I don't...

Two choices, cut a relief in the reinf (as little as possible) to allow the cap to be moved back and removed or find a shorter booster.

Cataloging calls for a 30" L cable.

The cap screw is 7/16" - 14 x 3/4" plus lock washer.
