Re: Mustang Owners Museum

Thanks for the heads up on the cool museum, Marcus. That Mustang pickup is very impressive. Normally I don't go for thinks like that, but that one is so well done that I really like it. Genuinely...

Re: Y block temperature sender in right head

I put a mechanical gauge on my '54 y block to replace my electrical gauge which had stopped working. Best thing I ever did, as a modern mechanical gauge conveys more and better information to the...

Re: Unibody car on jack stands.

Thanks guys. I do have the shop manual, but can't find anything in it about leaving the car on jack stands. Don't know how long I'll have it on stands, but I'm guessing less than a day.

Unibody car on jack stands.

Haven't had had an old car with unibody construction til the '65 T Bird I bought last year. I need to get underneath to access the trans vacuum mo. valve. I presume the jack stands will go on the big...

Re: You-Tube - Australian 1960 Ford Falcon

Fascinating video. Thanks for posting. I couldn't stop watching. Even if early 60's Falcons and inline sixes aren't your thing, you'll enjoy this video. A real glimpse into car making. (I like...

Re: Rule of thumb for fan belt tightness

Thanks for the belt tension gauge pic, Kultulz. I've been meaning to get one of those, but didn't know what they looked like.

I've used 3/4" total lateral play slack as a standard on my '54....

Re: gasket N.O.S.

Wow, is that true on the gaskets. I ended up keeping some of the old gaskets when I rewired my '54 last winter. They looked like they were more up to the task than the replacements I bought. I regret...

Re: 1960 wagon west

This is good advice and very important. Gas tanks in old unrestored cars (especially from the era you're dealing with) are, IMO, "guilty until proven innocent."

Re: 6 volt generator light question

Okay, I went ahead and bought a new voltage regulator from NAPA and installed it today, and everything seems to be doing what it's supposed to be doing, as far as I can tell. The gen light goes off...

Re: 1960 wagon west

I have a full sized '61 Merc with a 352 two bbl auto, and the engine is probably up to the task, if in good condition. My car had 48k on it when I bought it and the cylinder compression ranged from...

Re: 6 volt generator light question

I tightened up the belt from about 1-1/8" slack to 3/4" slack, and - believe it or not - it seemed to help. I wouldn't have thought that small amount would make a difference, but it seems to. Where...

Re: 6 volt generator light question

No problem. I'll look in the manual again to see if I can find something.

Lubrication for Y block water pump shaft (?)

What is that hole in the water pump of my '54 y block? It's about 1/8" in diameter, is at the top of the pump and exposes the inner shaft. It looks like a lubrication port of some type for the shaft,...

Re: 6 volt generator light question

Thanks Kultulz. Yes, I have the shop manual, but of course the section for '54 is supplemental, so some of the info I have to get from the '52-3 section. The ambient temp thing was from the '54...

Re: 6 volt generator light question

Also, just reading the manual; could be this characteristic is a "summertime" thing (?)

Apparently increased ambient temperatures reduce the regulator's voltage range. My readings are actually...

I hooked up the meter to the battery with the car not running,& disconnected...

6 volt generator light question

Hello again everyone! I rewired my '54 Ford passenger car last winter, replacing pretty much everything electrical including the generator and generator regulator. Battery, too. I kept the car 6...

Re: Rear Tire Jacking info on 1955 ford stationwagon.

I disconnect the shock on my '54 Ranch Wagon. It's a hassle, but not frustrating if you're prepared for it. (And that's how the shop installed the radial tires.)

If you don't want to do that...

Re: wheel/tire size and clearance on 58 wagon

On my '54 wagon I unbolt the rear shocks to get the rear radial tires off the car. Wheels are original though, and I never have any issues with tires scrapping against the fenders. I don't rotate the...

Re: material for 55/56 Ford station wagon

Thanks Steve.

Sal is correct. As far as I can tell, my Mainline Ranch Wagon came also from the factory with that stuff that he describes: about 1/8" or maybe slightly thicker coating that...

Re: car cover

You might consider a free standing HEPA filter in the garage, and washing the cover a couple of times a year, too (if you're able to.)

Re: Proper glue?

As I recall I attached my existing plastic headlight switch knob to a new shaft from a new unit using two part epoxy...a strong brand, like JB Weld. No problems so far. Silicone or Liquid Nails would...
