Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

So, I ran it with the leads disconnected for maybe 15 minutes at a fast idle, about 1,200 rpm, and it ran great the whole time. So I reconnected the leads, and it did fire up again (with a little...

Riding motorcycles since my early 20’s, the petcock becomes the first thing you check. :)

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

Guys. My head hurts. I had this A running flawlessly yesterday, and I go out to fire it up today (VERY COLD DAY), and it fires off, runs a bit, and then dies, like somebody cut the ignition. I try to...

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

Thanks Bob! I just figured this out a few hours ago. I’ve got this A drivable now, but I think the rotor phasing is still a little bit off. It’s hard to know if the points are in the wrong place on...

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

I figured I’d share these pictures to illustrate what I mean when I say that the points plate contacts the distributor body before I can get very much advance via the lever. If anybody has any...

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

I had read that in another post. The battery and every wire in the system are all brand new. The generator has cleanly terminated 10ga (way overkill) all the way up to the ammeter and back out to the...

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

Thanks Bruce, I pretty much agree. I’d like to make it work with what’s there, but perhaps that’s a too-tall order. So much of the Model A stuff I’ve purchased in the past (mainly body panels and...

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

Thank you Steve. I actually watched that right after I saw Joe’s post. It comes up when you Google “Model A Third Brush Adjustment” or something along those lines anyway. You made that make sense. I...

Re: Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

Joe,

Thank you!

So, it’s not necessarily “wrong” that there wasn’t an external voltage regulator installed on this thing previously? But adjusting the third brush to give, what, 7.2 volts,...

Need Help with a Model A that’s Overcharging.

Don’t mind my previous post. My Model A seems to have started charging suddenly after I jumped the cutout terminals and motored the generator. BUT…now it’s overcharging. This A didn’t have any sort...

Re: You Tube Roadster Body Rebuild Series; from the Subrails Up!

So far you are one of two people who have made comments to this end. I don’t want to seem tone-deaf, but YouTube tracks the “click-through” rate, which leads me to believe that there are more folks...

Red face Re: You Tube Roadster Body Rebuild Series; from the Subrails Up!

If any of you Ford Barners want to critique/correct me, it would be much appreciated. I don’t have much to go by here…

Re: I'm not a Model A person

Look. There’s really not very many classic automobiles that are more “simple”. This is a learning curve, like anything else that’s new or different, and it sounds like you’ve got a car that’s been...

Re: You Tube Roadster Body Rebuild Series; from the Subrails Up!

I hesitated to post this one because I’m getting away from the “body” rebuild and into the “hotrod” phase of the project, but since the thread is here, and some of you have expressed...

Re: Mounting Rumble Lid Hinges; Where Did I Go Wrong!?

I agree with everything you just said. Maybe I can find a good original...of course, then I might need to re-do my brackets again.

Re: You Tube Roadster Body Rebuild Series; from the Subrails Up!

Yes I did. It is built from 2x6 planks and a single sheet of 3/4 hardwood plywood. Built to 4’x8’, which fits the body perfectly.

Thank you! Yes, I have sandblasted all of the original...
