Re: It RUNS ....and then it DIES....

I would suggest running a mechanical pump and use the electric pump to prime. I would forget the pressure regulator. I am assuming that the mechanical pump can pull thru the electric pump. I run...

Re: rear end identification

The bearings would have numbers on them that would enable you to obtain replacement bearings at NAPA or an outlet that sells bearings. Not a problem.

Re: gas line

You have the inlet valve in the fuel pump that should prevent the drain back to the tank. I am inclined to think that the fuel in the carb is leaking thru the power valve. The carb should retain...

Re: Old stock ?

“Green Book” only lists cast iron 33 -48 as a replacement for AL. Manifold is about 45 mi at my former location - I will check it out next Monday and reply to you. How can I contact you?

Re: Removing upper steering shaft grommet

I drilled my bushing many times with 1/8th inch bit and took it out in pieces and the crumbs I sucked out by placing the hose down over the shaft. I installed a wheel barrow bearing - perfect fit -...

Re: Chapter 2. Missing at part throttle.

Some ideas!! First, do you have room behind the 3rd carb to install a mechanical fuel pump and use the electric for priming? I have that arrangement - mech pump primed by electric.
I would back...

Re: Missing at full throttle.

Pleased that you found the problem with the ignition cable. You might keep in mind the size of power valves. As I mentioned earlier I had to go from #65 pv to 71 pv - half the size to prevent over...

Re: Missing at full throttle.

I think he is going to go to points and condenser - that is the reason for suggesting Packard 440. If he is going to stay with the Petronix then stay with the spiral.

Re: Missing at full throttle.

Pleased that you found the open cable. You can either obtain a new spiral cable and periodically check the spirals for continuity or install Packard 440 wires, which in my experience are very...

Re: Missing at full throttle.

On the power valves, the engine would bog down when the throttle open the power valves and with the accelerator pumps disconnect, the engine responded very well -no bog. Hence, put in #71 power...

Re: Missing at full throttle.

On the wet plug, I would check the continuity of the spark plug cable with an ohmmeter and if that is okay, then I would try a new distributor cap. I have seen strange things take place because of a...

Re: Missing at full throttle.

Are you using Power Valves in the secondary carbs? I have dual 97s at 600 ft elevation and I had to change to 71 power valves in place of 65s. I am using stock mains.

Re: Missing at full throttle.

Running a Petronix, I asssume you are running 12v with plug gaps at .035. The Petronix is added to a stock crab, distributor cap and rotor, the latter being used on plugs set at .025.
Querie- cap...

Re: engine analyzer questions

What result when you connect the black lead to ground and the green lead to the distributor post on the coil? To check point resistance you need a battery connected to the unit. Same for voltage...

Re: Missing at full throttle.

Try locking the outer carbs from opening and run on just the center carb. Narrow the problem to one of the outer carbs. Are you using copper core, spiral or carbon core wires? If using carbon core...

Re: engine analyzer questions

As I stated initially, I had to reverse the leads on my Snap On unit because of the positive ground system. You tried!!! I have no more ideas. I was not aware that a dwell-tach had to have battery...

Re: engine analyzer questions

I have a Snap-On Dwell-Tach and I connect its yellow wire to ground (6v positive) and its black wire to the distributor side of the coil. Works fine. Now as to yours, you do not need a battery to...

Re: Help - 47' Gas Tank Fix or Replacement

I would replace the fuel lines - do not use old fuel lines with new tank.
