Before a rebuild make sure you have a good core. I took a bare carb, blasted it, painted it only to find the spray valve threads were stripped out when the new parts came in. Felt dumb after that...

Be careful with the radiator, be sure the shop is familiar with T's, as you don't want them to pressure test it. Got to be gentle with old stuff.

Re: Cleaning Kerosense Sidelights
I cleaned the reflectors on a set of electric 26 headlights with Simichrome Polish. Turned out great. Would think a quick wipe down with kerosene would remove the soot to get you started.
