Re: Interior Fabric

Only the front seat bottom cushion and backrest "seating surfaces" were leather. The rest of the front seat and interior upholstery was artificial leather. The Rumble seat upholstery was artificial...

Re: Battery Operated Tachometer

I have been using a "Tini-Tach" battery operated tach for about 5 years now. It uses a single wire that wraps around the coil wire.
I have them in 2 of my Model A's and one on my engine stand. Very...

Re: 1931 Victoria Rear Seat Arm Rests

I think they look similar but they are different. As stated above, re-productions are available.

Re: First start

Most of the old style reproduction hose clamps are of very poor quality and will not clamp tightly clear around the hose. Some of the better parts suppliers offer good quality "old style" hose clamps...

Re: Low compression, all holes

First, I would suggest you remove the air filter and do not put it back on.

Secondly, run it a while and you may find the compression readings come up. An engine that has sat for a long period of...

Re: Ignition problem

Check the distributor cam and shaft bushings. If these are bad, the points may not be opening the same amount for each cylinder. To check this, turn the engine over by hand and check each cylinder to...

Re: checking model A for cracked head

You can use a "Combustion Leak Test Kit" which "sniffs" the coolant to check for combustion gasses. These kits are readily available at most parts stores and are not expensive and they work.

If...

Re: Brake shoe lining

Henry used woven linings with cast iron drums well into the late 30's.

Woven linings work very well with both steel and cast iron drums.

Re: Brake shoe lining

The problem with todays molded linings is they are as hard as a rock. The molded linings we used to get in the old days was a lot softer and performed well.

Re: wheel color

I believe Straw or Tacoma Cream would have been an optional wheel color. Straw is a just little more toward yellow than Tacoma Cream.

My opinion,

Re: Brake shoe lining

Woven,

Henry used woven linings with cast iron drums clear up until the war.

Woven lining has a much higher coefficient of friction than the currently available molded linings which will give...

Re: Darned reproduction parts!

I agree,

I have a lathe and can weld but I still need to buy some parts from the suppliers. Often I have to do some rework to get the results I am looking for.

I try to buy only the best...

Re: help with vibrating mirror !

The 33 Pick-Up originally did not have an inside rear view mirror, only an outside mirror on the left side. You may try making the mirror bracket very stiff. Any springiness in the bracket will...

Re: Suggestions for Model A body on rotisserie

I restored a 31 roadster using a rotisserie. I made bracing for the inside of the body to stiffen it.
I used the 2 holes in the rear jam that attaches the dovetail to attach the brace across the...

Re: Ignition cable blues

I found on eBay a 16 gauge tinned copper wire with 252 strands and silicone rubber insulation. That should work OK.

If I didnít want to monkey around with the mechanics of the car, I would have...

Re: Engine overhaul options/decision

By the way,

Your current engine has been over-bored by 0.060 inches which is a very common size.

Re: Engine overhaul options/decision

I agree,

There is about .004-.005 taper in the bores which is not bad for these old engines.

If the bearings look good, hone the cylinders and lap the valves if that is all they will need or...

Re: Ignition cable blues

Remove the wireless lower plate and use the original lower plate with a wire, just like Henry did it. Be sure to use the correct multi stranded wire that is sold by most of the better parts suppliers...

Re: Water leak.

If it returns, when the engine is cold, remove the nut and put some Permatex around the stud where it comes thru the head, reinstall the nut and torque it and it should be OK.

I would try that...

Re: Clutch Disc Exploded!

I would purchase one from Bratton's.

They are the ones who recognized early on that there was a problem and caused a excellent quality USA made clutch disc to once more be made available.

So...
