Re: Purpose of the spring around the OD of brake drum ?

It amazes me that the drums ever stayed together. The area were the lug bolts are seems very thin to me and hardly capable to support the pressure applied and heat generated by the shoes.

Re: Purpose of the spring around the OD of brake drum ?

No No it’s to keep the cast iron from cracking under pressure and repeated heat cycles like the blocks. Unfortunately this never caught on with the block as there was a controversy as to wether they...

Re: 1950 H226 oil pan removal

Also consider how it will go back together. Are you going to properly align the pan and hold it in place without out messing up the gasket and sealant.

Re: Tech: Cheap and easy pcv on your 49-53 ford flathead v8

Is it possible in a good engine for the blow by gasses to exceed the vacuum available to keep the crankcase at negative pressure. As in WOT low vacuum and higher blow by? Would this push the gasses...

Re: Front end lift.

Thanks for the suggestions. Just finished resealing the pan (fingers crossed), engines back in and now fighting the header on the left so it will be a future mod.

Re: Front end lift.

Tinker, it’s just that I’m somewhat a contrarian. Everywhere are cars that have been slammed, bammed and rammed to the pavement. Level or a little nose high for me.

Re: Front end lift.

OK, I was wondering about that approach but was thinking that pushing the spring pack out of the crossmember that far might be detrimental to spring retention in the crossmember.

Front end lift.

Is there a way to give my ‘39 Tudor’s front end a little altitude. Like about 2” of lift. Spacers between the spring leaves? Addition of coil over shocks? All the spring sets I see are standard...

Re: Oil level. Is your dipstick lying? Make sure you know what you've got.

I like your fix for the leaky dipstick guide. Mine is doing the same plus a few other places. Curious if it is possible to get the pan off my 8cm in my ‘39 by jacking the engine up or if the engine...
