Re: Powder Coat Removal??

I scraped some off with a utility knife today. I think I'm gonna just try using a wire wheel mounted on an old electric motor. Thanks for all your responses.

(I really dislike powder coating. I...

Re: What Car Skates work best?

Amen! My brother bought a set years ago and the casters wouldn't swivel worth a darn! We then realized that they were getting hung up on the ends of the bolts. Put the bolts in upside down and it...

Re: 1939 Ford Transmission DON'T......

I know that water in the oil corrodes the hardened steel used in the gears (transmission AND rears) like crazy!! And, since water is heavier than the oil, it goes to the bottom and gets the cluster...

Re: F1 steering in a Model A

Well, I cut the flange off the F1 box, made up a new Model A flange out of 3/8" plate and welded it to the box. First, I bolted the flange into the frame and then got the box all lined up with a...

Re: Tubeless tires?

Rims made for tubeless tires have a small bead just in from where the bead of the tire sits and it's only on the "out side" of the rim. The theory is that if a car is suddenly put into a hard turn,...

Re: Q: 34 Diff: torque on housing/ pinion preload etc.

One thing I forgot to mention- I used an aftermarket ring and pinion and had a hell of a time getting the pre-load right on the pinion. It would be loose, I would tighten up on the nut and the outer...

Re: Help: Reverse eye leaf spring problem 34 Ford

I just made up a spreader for reversed eye springs, mainly for an 'A' rear but I don't know how it would work for a spring not centered (front and back) over the axle.

Re: Q: 34 Diff: torque on housing/ pinion preload etc.

I don't remember who I got them from. I was thinking that they might have shrunk a bit if they were cut when the air where they were made was very humid and it was dryer when I used them.

Re: Q: 34 Diff: torque on housing/ pinion preload etc.

I redid a later banjo rear and the gaskets were giving me fits! They were a bit undersize on the ID and were tearing when I tried to get them over the raised lip on the face of the axle housings. I...

Re: Help: Reverse eye leaf spring problem 34 Ford

There was an article about this situation a couple of years back in one of the hot rod magazines at the time. The easiest way I can think of explaining it is that the ends of the leaves are not...

Re: Parasitic draw from Generator?

Trying to clean contacts with any kind of sand paper will leave an abrasive residue that will lead to problems. If you do anything like that, use a file. Point files used to be in every mechanic's...

Re: Parasitic draw from Generator?

There are three relays in the common voltage regulator. First one controls the voltage by opening the field coil circuit when the desired voltage is obtained. Second opens the field coil circuit if...

Re: 32 stock v8 tudor steering very hard

Steering wheel might prove to be a bear. As I recall, I drilled and tapped a pair of 5/16-18 holes at 180 from one another into the metal portion of the steering wheel hub. I was then able to use a...

F1 steering in a Model A

I'm working with the Bishop-Tardel book and it's time to tackle the steering box modifications. Bishop-Tardel recommends cutting the flanges off both the Model A box and the F1 box and then welding...

Re: Spring spreader for reversed eyes

The area of the angle iron where it engages the spring eye is ground to about a 60 included angle to get good engagement. There are also two plates under the spring leaf that bolt to the angle iron....

I made up a spring spreader for use with reversed eye springs, particularly for a Model A rear. I used two lengths of 3/4 pipe and 3/4 threaded rod, both welded to a pair of 1-1/2" angle iron. I made...
