Re: starter solenoid

This is a little different approach, but if your not trying to be 100% original you can hook the horn power lead to just about any point that is an always hot connection. They may be calling the...

Re: 8BA Running Temperatures

The hotter the better for the engine, but there are limits of course. I would say 180 as a minimum and 190 to 195 is better.

Re: Trouble shoot 1950 8Ba initial start up Help

On the fuel issue, just to be sure you understand, gas will not ignite in it's liquid state. It has to be vaporized to a specific ratio with air to ignite. It is very easy to "flood" a carbureted...

Re: 34 starter switch

The generator is the most likely thing to be damaged, and if the generator is providing reverse polarity to the battery, that is not good.

I can not see any why reversing the battery terminals...

Re: Flywheel part numbers?

Well, not sure I understand this one because the flywheel diagrams are numerous and obvious. But if you really can't find them, the V8 call-out is on Pg 215. The base number is 6375. The listings...

Re: Trouble shoot 1950 8Ba initial start up Help

No, that distributor requires a specific carburetor to work. It needs a mixed signal from both above and below the throttle plate.

Re: Brake drums

It matters for unsprung weight, would think that was what Ford had in mind.

Re: Trouble shoot 1950 8Ba initial start up Help

Also, when you check the spark at the plug, is it a bright blue spark?

Re: Trouble shoot 1950 8Ba initial start up Help

The compression numbers don't look that bad for unseated rings, so that should rule out any valve issues. So about has to be an ignition problem. Can you post a couple of photos of the distributor in...

Re: The question of the day?

Ok, this is a 4 cylinder. Most likely the generator putting out current opposite the battery connection!

Re: The question of the day?

The coil will work reversed (but weaked), the generator won't work. Did it start? Just attempting to start it shouldn't do much. Install the battery correctly and see if it will start and run.

Re: Calling ALL ingnition and or electriacl experts

On the 9N & 8N, the number indicates the first year of production, 39 & 48. The early 8Ns had the front mounted distributor then they switched to the side style, something like the 8ba.

Why not...

Re: WHO Is the Oldest Early V8 Forum Member?

Ok, frnkeore, me too. My first car was a 30 Model A coupe. I was like 12 or 13. No floor boards and no exhaust pipe. The carb leaked and it would blow a ball of flame under your feet ever so...

Re: Trouble shoot 1950 8Ba initial start up Help

Compression test will tell you about all you need to know about valve adjustment. If you don't have a gauge think you can borrow one from most auto parts places.

Re: Trouble shoot 1950 8Ba initial start up Help

Before you start taking things apart, need to check what you are doing. A compression gauge will give you a good indication if the valve clearance is anywhere near correct. If there is a spark and...
